It has not been a good day for area communters relying on planes or trains (automobile owners, you're next). Starting around 2:30 p.m. today, some 20,000 PSE&G customers lost power due to an equipment failure at the utility’s Bayway Switching Station in Elizabeth. THE JAKEWALK: This romantic Carroll Gardens wine, cocktail and cheese bar is named after a Prohibition-era malady called the “Jake Walk”: a stiff-legged gait that afflicted drinkers of Jamaica Ginger, an alcohol-based “tonic” tainted with a leg-paralyzing neurotoxin.
