Avengers assemble! If you've been aching to be the first in line when Joss Whedon's take on Marvel's mighty band of non-mutants, well, your chance is coming. The Avengers has been selected as the closing film for this year's TriBeCa Film Festival.

The Avengers Trailer, Now With More NYC Destruction!
There were lots of ads in last night's Super Bowl—two that even stirred up some controversy—but only one that got our geeky hearts aflutter. Yup, we all got another look at Joss Whedon's superhero spectacular, The Avengers:
Joss Whedon Made A Shakespeare Movie Between Avengers Takes?
Want to make a geek squee? Just tell them that not only is Buffy's Joss Whedon directing the big budget Avengers movie set for next summer but he's also gone and secretly filmed a movie called Much Ado About Nothing ("based on a play"). Because yeah, that just happened. The insanity began yesterday when a Nathan Fillion tweet sent his followers to this page which lists a cast of names familiar to those who've studied the Whedon oeuvre (Amy Acker! Alexis Densiof!) and says "Bellwether Pictures is proud to announce the completion of principal photography." But do we know anything else?
Videos: Make Way For The Avengers, Now Filming In NYC
The Avengers have been popping up all over Manhattan lately—to you, that's: Scarlett Johansson (Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow), Robert Downey, Jr. (Tony Stark/Iron Man), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Mark Ruffalo (the Hulk!), and all these people. Also part of the production is this guy at the 4:30 mark yelling at no-name civilians to clear the way:
Joss Whedon Is Crushing NYC Cabs In Cleveland Right Now
Live from... Cleveland! New York City cabs being crushed, during the filming of a scene from The Avengers. The production team, helmed by Joss Whedon, attempted to make East 9th Street in Cleveland look like Times Square, according to Movieline—did they succeed? The folks at Medical Mutual filmed some of the action from their offices above, and you can check out video on their Facebook page—there's a lot of black smoke explosions!

Week Around the -Ists
A poignant week for LAist as they lose their trusted and amazing editor Tony Pierce to the LA Times, but what a blast his last week was. He shared his 25 Favorite CDs of 2007 and wrote a great review of just a good movie, No Country For Old Men. At UCLA, thousands of students celebrated the end of their quarter by running around campus in their undies (lots of photos in a two-part photo essay, one, two). That wasn't the only photo essay either: Joss Whedon/Mutant Enemy friends and Star Trek actors all joined in at the Writers Strike and KROQ's Almost Acoustic Christmas brought two nights of amazing bands that included Avenged Sevenfold, Linkin Park (Part I), Modest Mouse, Muse, Spoon and The Killers (Part II). Not only is L.A. a great music town, it has just been named the best city for bookish types. For those who are looking for something a little more active, American Gladiators are back (yes!) and if that's not enough, how about a Christmas gift of action and adventure?
Weekly Movie Guide: Don't Limit Yourself to the NYFF
Another week, another slew of choices for New York film lovers. We reach the half-way point of the 43rd New York Film Festival this weekend. We've already presented some coverage from the fest, and there will be more to come tomorrow, and through the very busy weekend and next week at Alice Tully Hall, the Film Society of Lincoln Center's annual celebration of the best of world cinema will continue to dominate the attention of local cinephiles, but there's actually plenty of other stuff going on around the city that's worth your time.
One More Day Before Buffy Ends
Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator Joss Whedon answered Times readers' questions about the show, which wraps up its seven season tomorrow night on the UPN. Gothamist got a little misty-eyed, as we have loved watching the Scooby Gang fight vampires, growing up, and Evil, especially when reading Joss' intelligent ideas about character development on the show.
Seminal Teen TV Show Finales
Adam Buckman of the Post has seen the Buffy finale and say it's awesome. But Gothamist did not realize there was talk of a Buffy the Vampire Slayer cartoon - Joss Whedon wanted it to be on par with "Animaniacs or Batman: The Animated Series." [ Read more in The Hollywood Reporter interview with Joss.]
Buffy Bids Bye
Even USA Today gets into the "We'll Miss You Buffy" fever. A lament about the forthcoming loss of Buffy leads the all-Buffy coverage. The apocalypses that traditionally end each season are rated, and Joss Whedon discusses the series finale. Whedon also lists his top ten Buffy episodes. Hush, with the creepy Gentlemen and one of Gothamist's favorite Buffy episodes, is one of them.
More of Joss Whedon's nattering?
More of Joss Whedon's nattering? It makes some sense, given the fact that Sarah Michelle Gellar's contract is up at the end of the year. Unless the UPN is willing to pay through the nose.
