- Yankees 4 Tampa Bay 1: The Yankees won a pitcher’s duel in the first game of their doubleheader Monday. C.C. Sabathia went seven-strong, but he did not collect the win because Matt Garza matched him frame for frame. But, the Yankees broke through in the eighth, turning a 1-1 game into a 4-1 win. Robinson Cano hit a sac fly to make it 2-1. Jorge Posada and Eric Hinske both added RBI’s. That’s all Mariano Rivera needed as he pitched for the first time since September 1st and nailed down his 39th save.

Yankees 8 Houston 4: So far, a trip to Houston seems just like what the Yankees needed. Down 3-0 early, New York stormed back to win the game. Alex Rodriguez got the Yankees onto the board with a home run to right that got some assistance from an Astros’ fan who got his glove in the way. Jose Molina provided a huge double in the third that gave New York a 5-3 lead.

Yankees Take Time to Visit Virgina Tech
With all the talk in the past week of the Yankees' lowering themselves -- by starting a fight and by allowing a 59-year-old Billy Crystal to take an at-bat -- cynics Tuesday had a tough time knocking the Yankees down another peg. That's because the team flew up to Blacksburg, Va., site of Virginia Tech and the shootings that took place April 16, 2007. While there, players and coaches viewed the memorial and won an exhibition game against the Hokies, 11-0.
