Back in 2004 we talked to KEXP deejay John Richards, who was here broadcasting from the (then named) Museum of Television and Radio. KEXP is a Seattle listener-supported station, but while they're based in the Pacific Northwest, they are heard worldwide via their online stream.

One of our favorite stations to listen to all day is KEXP, run out of Seattle, and through the magic of online streaming - heard worldwide. This week they're in New York broadcasting (as they are twice a year), putting on some shows and having many in-studio guests. They're in Philip Glass' old studio which is now Gigantic Music, where their musical guests include:
Hello Gothamist readers. Allow me to introduce myself. Some of you may know me as the music-obsessed blogger over at BrooklynVegan.com. Now you'll also know me as the music-obsessed blogger here at Gothamist. I'll attempt to keep you informed of the shows you don't want to miss each and every week. I'll try my best not to miss anything, not make mistakes, and bring you as much variety as possible, but unfortunately I'm only human. Work with me. KEXP's New York studio will be at the Museum of Television & Radio, located at 25 W. 52nd St. So plan your lunch hours accordingly so you can catch some of these shows, which are all held late morning and mid day.
Back in June Gothamist's favorite radio station, KEXP, came for a week long visit as it broadcasted live out of the Museum of Television & Radio. At that time we had a chance to sit and chat with morning deejay extroidanaire John Richards. Very (very) early in the morning, mind you. We also got a chance to catch some great bands in the intimate in-studio performance space. KEXP never ceases to amaze us with what it can pull off with no commercial sponsorship, and that's why we love it and we want to tell you more about it...so read about our chat with the man himself here.
Gothamist is aware that you're probably already finding yourself pulled towards the sweet Sirens sounds promised to be coming from Coney Island tomorrow, but we wanted to give you a reminder of the event in the form a preview. We are really excited about it ourselves and are having a problem figuring out which acts to catch, so here's our rundown for your sake and our own...
Singing You To Shipwreck"
Gothamist woke up early Tuesday morning. Very early. To meet with the pinnacle of early morning radio, John Richards (aka – John in the Morning). He is used to waking up early, we are not. Sitting in the makeshift studio on the 5th floor of the Museum of Television & Radio on 52nd Street (where John is broadcasting from all week), we asked if he is as chipper in the AM hours as he seems on-air or if he really is a bear. He replied "is that code for 'asshole'?" then admitted he's never really gotten used to the early-morning routine.
