The AP has this great photograph of a dog named Rocky at the Atlanta Humane Society. The Humane Society explained that Rocky had a #7 Michael Vick t-shirt because the society has been taking donated Vick clothing and using them as rags and bedding. Vick, the star quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons, pleaded guilty to federal conspiracy charges related to running a dogfighting ring at his Virginia home.

Police Commissioner Ray Kelly discussed the scourge that are LED devices with Aqua Teen Hunger Force characters on them yesterday. Kelly said, "In hindsight, [Interference Marketing] should have thought a little more about this, certainly in a post-9/11 world. They had wires hanging out of some of them. It's reasonable to look a little askance at these things." Also: "We get about 6,000 suspicious-package calls a year in New York, but we got no calls for this." Hmm, we wonder if adult swim has demographic info on ATHF viewers - are there more in NYC than Boston?

It is hard to imagine how things can get worse than this. Off the court, the Knicks have a sex scandal and revelations of their GM’s love child. On the court, they have completely given up. Facing a terrible Atlanta team, New York turned the ball over 23 times and lost 120-101.

The Mets' disappointing losses have suddenly become much more. After a sloppy series against the Yankees, the Mets played even worse in a three-game sweep against Atlanta, capped by 3-0 loss against the Braves Wednesday. They didn’t even score a run in the last two games, though they faced two starters who were working on only three days’ rest. They even lost to Kyle Davies, who was making his second major league start. Woe is the Mets’ lineup, and woe will be their summer if they can’t at least compete with their National League East foes.

And in a move to please the crowds in Atlanta, the Mets dropped another game to the Braves. The 6-3 loss gave Bobby Cox his 2000th career win. He is the 9th manager to reach that mark and joins Tony LaRussa as the only other active manager on the list. The Mets lost two of the three games in the series and return home to face the Expos.

Down in Florida, the Yankees didn't do so well, losing 9-4 (box score). Mike Mussina picked up his second loss against the Devil Rays in two games, the last one in Japan. In their three games against the lowly F-Rays, the Yankees have dropped two - it's time to panic! Quick, trade for some more pitching! Alex Rodriguez hit a home run in the game, but it wasn't enough to defeat the Rays, who as a team make less than $19 million, while A-Rod will make $22 million this year.
