We wondered about great movies about music as well as movies simply with great music - you can add your thoughts here. Plus the week in full.

NYC's New Teacher Recruitment Effort
The Times article notes the recruitment problems the city has had; we suggest you supplement that with a very interesting article about recruitment and attrition of city teachers from City Limits magazine. Also, the city's press release about the recruitment effort and the new Teach NYC website
Batman Casting
Since it's been fun to cast The Parker Grey Show, Gothamist would like to look at the casting for the upcoming Batman movie that Memento director Christopher Nolan will be directing. The Hollywood Reporter says that these actors are in the running:
New York on Film
While blathering on about the upcoming Joel Schumacher directed, much-postponed Colin Farrell starrer, The Phone Booth, and how only one day of filming actually took place in NY (Times Square). The Post comes up with other recent films set in New York that were filmed in others. My favorite bizarre stand-in: Melbourne, Australia for Besonhurst, NY, from Kangaroo Jack.
Bloggers, get your agents!
Finally, an article on the convergence of blogging and Hollywood: Salon.com Technology: Hollyblog. It seems that studios want to control information about a film, to circumvent the Harry Knowles posse from ruining a film (five words: Batman and Robin, Joel Schumacher). Hmm, seems like studios and publicity firms alike will need to be even more guerilla tactics, going beyond plotting stars relationships and goings on - as silly as America's Sweethearts, there is truth to it. This should be interesting, to see what kind of model the Hollywood-blog takes on, as well as what the audience for them will be like. Jason Kottke maintains a sort-of blog for the film Adaptation, which is based on the book his client, Susan Orlean, wrote, and the Adaptation blog, is a great twist, because it's off her site, but he's blogging....if you've seen the movie, you'll get it...if not, just know that it cleverly mirrors the meta-ness of Adaptation screenwriter Charlie Kaufman's take on the traditional adapted screenplay and go see Adaptation soon.
Here, Kitty-Kitty
Hollywood is all aflutter about the future of a Catwoman movie. Ever since Tim Burton's moody Batman Returns gave us Michelle Pffeifer slinking around with a whip, Catwoman seemed ideal for a franchise spin-off. Nine years later, Ashley Judd was tipped to be Catwoman last year, but now it officialshe won't be. Who's the next in line? Why Oscar nominee Nicole Kidman. (Yes, she was Chase Meridian in Batman Forever, but that was directed by Joel Schumacher and therefore I don't count it.) Coming Attractions thinks the project is in development hell, but I hope not - Owen Wilson is supposed to play a detective. I've read that the Catwoman movie will have a different backstory from Selina Kyle/Catwoman of Batman Returns - different name, different occupation. Which is cool, since Batman: The Animated Series gives a different backstory for Catwoman, though she was still Selina Kyle. And what's a Catwoman post without mentions of Julie Newmar and Eartha Kitt?
