Jim Gaffigan, Comedian

Jim Gaffigan might be the last of a certain era of comedians as a stand-up who simply does wry, observational jokes and yet still commands a great deal of respect from both the mainstream and also as a "comedian's comedian." He makes frequent appearances on Late Night, both performing stand-up as well as premiering webisodes of Pale Force, the series that animates Gaffigan and Conan O'Brien as underfed superheroes. Gaffigan is recognizable from around the dial where it's from My Boys, the TBS sitcom he co-stars in or a series of commercials he did for Sierra Mist. He's a transplant from Indiana who is married and raising two kids near the Bowery. He'll be performing at Town Hall from November 26th through the 30th. more ›

Law & Order: Pale Force Style

Fans of Late Night with Conan O'Brien are familiar with the hilarious Pale Force cartoons that feature comedian Jim Gaffigan and O'Brien as very pasty crime fighters. But recently, the series hit a new high with the Law & Order: Pale Face story arc. more ›

Google Mashup: Krispy Kreme Donuts + Burgers

The city may be fighting a war on trans-fats but Google's NYC cafeteria might as well be Switzerland from the looks of some photographs of what's being served up. Today, a Bacon Krispy Kreme Burger (whose sign also says "wrong on so many levels") was on the menu. Not only is the Krispy Kreme bun grilled, but the burger had cheese, too. more ›

I actually grew up in Dune Acres, which is a suburb of Chesterton. Chesterton is the sort of place that didn't have a McDonalds until I was in high school. It was a very boring place. We would ride our bikes six miles to go to the Dairy Queen. It was all right. It's a unique place in that northwest Indiana is a convergence of Midwest farm life and the steel mill rust belt. The steel mills of Gary, which is ethnically diverse and Indiana, which is very white bread. more ›

Flight of the Conchords return to NYC and Parkside Radio Hour debuts. All in one week.

Topping Gothamist's short list of things we can't get enough of are a nice cold Hoegarten, sample sales and the priceless humor of Flight of the Conchords. Though billed as a folk-parody duo, their songs have little to do with the typical issues addressed in folk music...unless you count their story of Albi, a racist dragon who cries jellybean tears and teaches us all a real life lesson. The rest of their songs tackle more hard hitting matters like David Bowie's song catalog, Hobbits and giving "something special" to the ladies. So yeah, we are excited that the Conchords are infiltrating the city this week. more ›
