A man used the window of Jeri Cohen Fine Jewelry on the Upper East Side to propose to his girlfriend, placing a sign in the display case asking his girlfriend, Alexandra, to marry him. Tom DeBourcy said his girlfriend often strolls by the store because it was featured on the Real Housewives of New York. She told the Daily News, "I always walk by and say to my mom, 'This is the place where Jill Zarin goes!'" She then told her fiancee "This is the greatest idea you ever had! Cops have arrested the “person of interest” suspected in a heist that left the 71-year-old owner of an upper Manhattan jewelry store dead. On Wednesday police found 37 pieces of jewelry in Edmond Alma’s apartment including 14 rings, seven necklaces and some bracelets, earrings and charms. They also found a bullet-resistant vest and 9 mm bullets—the very same type used to shoot the shop's proprietor. While the security guards of an East Side jewelry store were out for lunch, two thieves managed to get away with $1 million in jewelry. Rafaela Amini, co-owner of the Gioia Galleria, buzzed in the two men, who she apparently recognized as men who had previously been in the store. Seems like they had been casing it out, since they "immediately pounced on Amini, pushing her to the floor. When they tried to tie her up, she battled back, but they kicked her in the head and attacked her with pepper spray," the Post reports.
