Early yesterday morning a 32-year old man was shot and killed outside of Stereo, a so-called hotspot and celeb-touted club at 512 W 29th Street. The dispute leading up to the shooting began inside, but was eventually taken to the street, where Queens resident Brione Schneider was shot and was later pronounced dead at St. Vincent's Hospital. He was the father of a 6-year old boy, managed a Finish Line sports in Brooklyn and was described by his mother as "a very laid-back guy who was about going to work and taking care of his son...[he] was never a problem."

The woes of the downtown club scene continue to follow, even as the clubs themselves migrate eastward. Last night a 25-year-old man was stabbed to death outside of the Flatiron District club Strata. The man was stabbed in the torso and taken to St. Vincent's Hospital where he died from his injuries. Strata is a multi-level dance club at Broadway and 21st St. The name of the victim was not disclosed to reporters because his family had not been notified of his death. Police took one person into custody for questioning, although it was unclear whether the individual was a witness to the stabbing or a suspect.

It's not surprising news, but it's a reminder why people don't live in New York City. A report from the Independent Budget Office showed that New York City has the biggest tax burden than eight other big cities. In fact, NYC's tax burden is practically 50% higher than the average of cities like Philadelphia, Los Angeles, San Antonio, Houston, Chicago, Dallas, Phoenix and San Diego. (We don't know where San Francisco, Boston, or Seattle were during this survey.) For every $100, New York City's state and local taxes "absorbed" $9.02, while other cities average $6.16.

City Council Speaker Christine Quinn may propose "hefty fines and possible jail time" for those who use fake IDS, according to the NY Post. The City Council has made nightlife safety an issue after many nightlife incidents, most notably the case of 18 year old NJ resident Jennifer Moore being kidnapped, raped and murdered after a night of drinking in West Chelsea.

As the Queens DA investigates a confrontation between undercover police officers and three unarmed men that led to one of the men's deaths, the story from the officers seems to be that they did identify themselves as police. A lawyer for the detective who opened fire at the men's car spoke to the Daily News. Philip Karasyck said, "This cop screamed, 'Police!' and he had his shield out." The car clipped the officer, and then the officer fired when one of the men, Joseph Guzman, was reaching towards his waistband. Then, four other officers fired an the car, thinking they were under attack, although the men in the car had no weapons. After 50 rounds from the police were unloaded, Sean Bell was killed, while Guzman and Trent Benefield were shot many times.

Today, the City Council is having a "nightlife summit" to discuss bar and nightclub safety. Yesterday, the City Council introduced new bills that would require clubs to: 1) Install ID scanners and security cameras; 2) Give nightlife employees more training (safety and spotting drunk customers...) and 3) Hire monitors is laws are repeatedly broken at their venues. amNew York noted that the leglislation would have video recording "kept in a secure area and made available only for law enforcement purposes" and would be destroyed after 15 days, perhaps in an effort to stave off privacy concerns. The New York Nightlife Association says that only "bad operators should be required to install these cameras and I.D. scanners." But, after the deaths of Imette St. Guillen and Jennifer Moore, plus various fatal incidents involving bouncers and/or customer brawls (for instance, this past weekend there was a fatal fight in Staten Island), officials are eager to do something. The Post reports other things that will be discussed at the summit include "changing the current law that allows 16-year-olds to enter nightclubs, and banning bottle service, a trend that requires patrons to buy a minimum amount of liquor to get a seat at a club."

The Post reports that the police are investigating whether there's a link between the murder of Brooklyn teen Chanel Petro-Nixon and the NJ teen Jennifer Moore who was killed after a night of clubbing. Police have been showing a photograph of the suspect in Moore's murder, self-proclaimed pimp Draymond Coleman, in Petro-Nixon's Brooklyn neighborhood. In June, Petro-Nixon was on her way to an Applebee's to apply for a job, and she never made it home - her strangled body was found in a garbage bag days later. Moore had been strangled and was stuffed into a garbage bag as well. Another thing: Coleman is suspected of washing Moore's body with bleach to remove clues, and Petro-Nixon's body had a "chemical scar on her leg - possibly caused by bleach." A source tells the Post, "Until we get something concrete we can't rule anyone out."

After Jennifer Moore's death after partying at West 27th Street club, Guest House, last week, the local papers decide to head down to West 27th between 10th and 11th Avenues to report on the scene there. So there are mentions of drunken girls using tire to rest their heads as they lay on the street (NY Times) or girls super-excited that photographers are taking their pictures outside a club like paparazzi (NY Post). Here's a sampling:

The last moments of Jennifer Moore's life continue to be a source of 's and if she only's, as the NJ teen's night of partying in NYC ended fatally. The NY Times's article is called A Teenager’s Last Steps on a Trail of Missed Chances, and there's a section about all those moments:

What seems so troubling about Ms. Moore’s death is that, at least four times that night, she had encounters with people who might have altered the course that ended in her death.

Yesterday, police arrested a man suspected of killing 18 year old NJ resident, Jennifer Moore. Moore had been missing since Tuesday morning, but calls still were being made from her cellphone. Police questioned those being called and were led to Draymond Coleman, who was at an SRO in upper Manhattan. After questioning Coleman, the police found Moore's body in a dumpster in West New York, NJ, and the crime scene in a Weehawken, NJ motel nearby - the Park Avenue Hotel, which the Daily News describes as squalid. A tape from the motel showed Coleman and Moore entering the motel, and police say Coleman beat and strangled Moore, stuffed Moore's body into a duffel bag for disposal. It seems that Coleman also tried to remove his DNA evidence from her, by clipping her nails and swabbing her body with alcohol. Police believe Moore put up a fight; the Bergen Record writes, "The scene inside the room was so gruesome, [a detective] said, that he passed on viewing the body." Coleman will be extradited to NJ. His prior record includes a drug selling offense.

After realizing bouncers need regulating, will the city crack down on clubs serving underage patrons? The NY Post reports that a NJ teen is missing after partying at Guest House on West 27th Street. Eighteen year old Jennifer Moore of Harrington Park, NJ and a friend left Guest House at 2:30AM, only to find that Moore's car was towed.

The teens ended up at an NYPD impound lot on West 38th Street and 12th Avenue at about 4 a.m., authorities said.
