Yesterday afternoon, President Bush's daughter Jenna was married in a sunset ceremony at the "Western White House" in Crawford, Texas. Her groom, Henry Hager, is from a "well-connected" Virginia family and had worked for Karl Rove.

Who knew that Laura Bush and daughter Jenna Bush's children's book tour would prompt violence? The Post reports a wheelchair-bound girl was assaulted by a Bush protester after the Bushes' 92nd Street Y appearance on Tuesday.

President George Bush gave his final State of the Union address, sounding positive about his leadership but also noting that there's still more to do: "From expanding opportunity to protecting our country, we have made good progress. Yet we have unfinished business before us, and the American people expect us to get it done." (You can read the entire text here.)

MOVIE: Audrey Hepburn, a doll filled with heroin, Alan Arkin and the West Village in the 60s. What more could you ask for? Come check out Wait Until Dark tonight, but don't wait until dark to get there - the lawn fills up fast!

Sometimes you need to clean yourself up, get serious, and move in with daddy for a few months before you head to Latin America for a new gig. The District bids Jenna Bush adios. D.C.-based television shows have an elderly audience and DCist has Butterstick the panda bear a birthday bash.

December is a special time for comedians. Not only are they trying to scrape together enough money from the commercials and VH1 shows they booked this year to buy presents for their family, but it’s also Aspen audition time. The U.S. Comedy Arts Festival held in Aspen is a Mecca for comedians. Auditioning and being chosen for the USCAF and mingling with the comedy elite (past performers have included…basically everyone famous) is a career maker for many who attend. This weekend, check out the shows that just might end up catapulting these New York comics toward sitcom deals, Hollywood scripts or at the very least, a Sierra Mist ad. All shows are free.

Somehow the Fringe Festival is over, though we’re not quite sure how so many shows could have flown by so quickly. Gothamist isn’t quite done with it yet, though – we still have a couple of reviews from the final weekend, plus some musings on the festival as a whole and how it’s looking at the advanced age of nine (keep reading after the jump). And before we launch into that, let’s give a hearty yowp of congratulations to the winners of the 14 industry-judged awards (the whole list is here; we still haven’t heard about the results of the audience ballot). Gothamist was pleased to see that Movie Geek got the “outstanding multimedia” prize and that God’s Waiting Room was one of three winners in the play category, along with The Lightning Field and Go-Go Kitty, Go!, which we didn’t think quite so worthy. We also rolled our eyes at the inclusion of Fluffy Bunnies in the outstanding ensemble award group, but felt justified in our praise of Jesus in Montana and The Miss Education of Jenna Bush, for which Barry Smith and Melissa Rauch respectively took honors (with two other shows) in the outstanding solo category. Finally (well, there are more awards, but go to the list already if you’re interested) after their loads of hype, Silence! and Fleet Week predictably got the musical honors. Gothamist isn’t in the know enough to have heard about extensions that might be forthcoming, but it’s pretty safe to say that if you didn’t make it to one of these top shows during the festival, you’ll be able to at some point in the near future, or at least some variation on them.

As we head into the final weekend of FringeNYC, Gothamist finds ourselves thinking two things: First, we're incredibly surprised at how enjoyable so many of this year's Fringe festival shows have been. Certainly we have managed to attend only a fraction of the complete offerings, but as samplings go, we have to give this year's organizers some props.

.

Gothamist spent the weekend hanging out at the Fringe. With over 1200 performances of somewhere around 180 productions happening between this past Friday and Aug. 28, there's more than enough for us to se. We caught seven shows this weekend, and the good news is, Gothamist can actually recommend over 50% of them. We know --- we're shocked too! But the fact is, if this somewhat random sampling was any indication of what the quality of this year's festival is like, hopefully the rest of what Gothamist plans to attend won't be so bad either.

The Ninth Annual NYC Fringe Festival is now in its second day and it's probably time you took advantage of it ("But its 98 degrees outside," you say, to which we respond: its much cooler inside most of the theaters). Gothamist already gave you a peak at the shows that caught our eye, but seriously folks there are a lot of shows going on and at least a few of them are definitely worth your time. Don't believe us? Check out their "Slice-o-matic" search engine and just ask for everything going on this afternoon and evening and you'll get 43 shows that you could attend including, but definitely not limited to: "The Miss Education of Jenna Bush," "Sex with Jake Gyllenhaal and Other Fables of the Northeast Corridor," "Unholy Secrets of the Theremin," "The Mayor Who Would Be Sondheim," "TAROT READING: Love, Sex and Mommy," "Grandmotherfucker & The Seducers," and "Slow Children Playing."

Gothamist used to remember when we'd have a good idea of who would be president around dinner time. However, the very special episode of "America Picks A President" in 2000 had special guest appearances by "Hanging Chad," "James Baker," and "Overanxious Journalists Who Wanted To Call The Election." So this year, we must wait before we know who will be kicking his legs up in the White House come next January. Will it be a man who can choke on a pretzel or a man who looks a lot like Herman Munster? We'll be glued to all the news channels, desperately waiting some information.

Check out our other Gothamist sections: Ask (for advice), Arts & Events, Sports, and Weather. And the week in full.

Also, Jenna and twin Barbara will be in Vogue, revealing why they are on the campaign trail. But The First Twins website has more dirt.

The Post reports that First Twin Jenna Bush will be taking a class at NYU this summer. Nice! Gothamist guesses this is will be the first time Jenna interacts with a multitude of liberal Jews and Asians, having been at UT Austin, but don't worry Jenna, like Austin, there are tons of struggling musicians here looking for girlfriends. Gothamist does feel empathy for Jenna, as she's like any young person horribly embarrassed by her father and decides to drown her troubles in a little partying.
