Coney Island sideshow operator John Strong is still battling to get the former 5-legged-dog back from the nice lady who saved her from a life in freakshow hell. The dog underwent a bit of a rush operation when Strong announced he planned on taking a legal route to get her back; later he expressed his desire to reattach the leg. It doesn't get much freakier than this guy! And now the Daily News reports that the showdown will be aired on Fox, of course.

Former Westchester County District Attorney - and one-time Attorney General candidate and potential Senate candidate - Jeanine Pirro and her husband Al Pirro have announced they are separating. Their statement to the press: "We have agreed to amicably separate. As always, our priority remains our two wonderful children. We ask that people respect our privacy. There will be no further comment." The couple has been married 32 years and have weathered through many years of...

It's been a tough week for Bernie Kerik. The former NYPD commissioner who had his bid to head up Homeland Security unceremoniously thwarted in 2004 amid allegations of shady dealings is now facing serious federal charges. The Washington Post reports today that federal prosecutors have informed Kerik that he is likely to be charged with multiple felonies, including tax evasion and conspiracy to commit wiretapping. This comes two weeks after Kerik refused a plea deal offered by prosecutors that would have required the former police commissioner to serve some time in prison. The wiretapping charge stems from an incident that would seem to straddle the categories Very Dumb and Plain Crazy, when Kerik and Westchester County District Attorney Jeanine Pirro were overheard planning to wiretap Pirro's husband in order to catch him engaging in an extramarital affair. Ironically, this conversation took place over a line that federal law enforcement had legally wiretapped.

She may developing a talk show, but that doesn't mean former Westchester DA and failed Attorney General candidate Jeanine Pirro can't be investigated some more! WNBC's Jonathan Dienst reports the federal investigation into Pirro's doings has broadened, with a focus on what occurred during 2004-2005.

Maybe the new badge of infamy is how quickly your story gets co-opted by a Law & Order show. Apparently the antics of former Attorney General candidate Jeanine Pirro and trouble-making husband Al will be dramatized for an episode of Criminal Intent that will air next year. The Post has details:

In the episode, a very Pirro-like politician has her eyes on becoming the first female mayor of New York. But her husband, who's described as "very charming with a checkered past," throws a monkey wrench into her hopes when he's suspected of murdering his wife's mentor, a respected judge.

...Al Pirro, who did not appear during wife Jeanine Pirro's concession speech for the NY State Attorney General race. Pirro, who had 40% of the vote to Andrew Cuomo's 57%, gave her speech to a crowd of 100 supporters in Manhattan. The Empire Zone says that her spokesman did not ask her why Al was not there. Huh, we guess even her staff knows some topics are off limits.

Hilarious: The NY Times' election blog, The Empire Zone, reports that Chelsea Clinton's name wasn't found in the book of registered voters at the West 20th Street polling place: "The book containing her name was apparently forwarded to the wrong district, denying her the ability to enter a polling booth." D'oh! So she - and probably the other people in that book - had to fill out an "affidavit vote," ensuring that she would be able to participate in the democratic process. The Daily Politics found out that some Manhattan voters got old 2005 affidavit ballots - one for last year's Mayoral race. There's nothing like voting day in NYC! But at least potential voters aren't being threatened with arrest.

The Daily News reveals the extent of Eliot Spitzer's real estate portfolio. And it's quite impressive. Thanks to his father, developer Bernard Spitzer, the Attorney General and gubernatorial frontrunner earned almost $1 million on rents from a variety Madison Avenue properties. Hello, Attorney General Big Pockets!

Hill-arious! Republican Senate hopeful John Spencer denied telling Daily News reporter Ben Smith that he thought opponent Hillary Clinton was ugly and probably had plastic surgery. Spencer did admit to noticing how Clinton's style had changed, but says he never questioned Bill Clinton's decision to marry.

With Election Day in a little more than two weeks, candidates are pushing into the home stretch by rallying their supporters and looking for undecided voters. The NY Times made some more big endorsements. The Gray Lady threw support behind Eliot Spitzer for Governor and Andrew Cuomo for Attorney General. The Spitzer endorsement was enthusiastic and hopeful, while the Cuomo one...well, here's a bit from it which contrasts Cuomo with the embattled Republican Jeannine Pirro:

Siena College released poll numbers for various NY election races yesterday. In the wackiest race of all - the Attorney General race between Democrat Andrew Cuomo and Republican Jeanine Pirro - it looks like the embattled Pirro is gaining slightly on Cuomo. Cuomo now leads by 13 points, 50 to Pirro's 37, but a month ago, Cuomo led by 17 points. But it's not like voters are suddenly switching sides - Cuomo's numbers went down as more people joined the undecided voters. So, it still doesn't seem like the scandal has hurt Pirro very much, but it's still unclear if it's helped her. We're curious about a post-debate poll, after Sunday's wild ride. Cuomo and Pirro are debating for the last time (awww) this morning in Rochester - we hope that Room Eight's LunchBox tackles that debate too, because yesterday's LunchBox on Sunday's debate was perfect.

Attorney General candidates Jeanine Pirro and Andrew Cuomo delivered a crazy, mean-spirited exchange in their first debate. And if it weren't so sad that these are our candidates, it would be funny. It was a little funny when Pirro mocked Cuomo's record as a "non-practicing lawyer" (14 months in the Manhattan DA's office over 20 years ago) and his record as the secretary of HUD under President Clinton, saying, "Your running for attorney general is like my running for Joe Torre's position [as Yankees manager] because I played softball 21 years ago." Ha - but Cuomo didn't hold back, telling the audience, "Just so we're clear, there is a candidate who is being accused of criminal wrongdoing and is under investigation by a number of law-enforcement agencies and had their ethics questioned - that's not me, however. SNAP!

Finally, Al Pirro speaks! The wheeler-dealer, who wife and Attorney General candidate Jeanine Pirro suspected of having an affair and found herself under federal investigation after discussing possibly bugging Al's boat, gives an interview to New York magazine, and boy, it's like "The Shaming of the Shrew." He really goes off on her! The Post and NY Times gives bits from the interview. For instance, Big Al says he wasn't having an affair - he was just looking for a friend! From the NY Times:

Mr. Pirro said he was looking only for companionship from the other woman. “There’s no harm in having a female friend. I think there’s a difference between being charming and holding yourself out as being available,” Mr. Pirro said, denying that he had done the latter.

Republican candidate for Attorney General Jeanine Pirro continued to make her campaign appearances, and her daughter Cristine stood up for her. At a Manhattan fundraiser lasted night, the Daily News reports that Cristine "Kiki" Pirro, University of Pennsylvania senior, said, "While others may question her decisions, I love her for choosing to do what she thought was best for our family. You know, we've taken a lot of hits as a family, but we are standing together forever and ever." She also said, "There aren't enough lies and leaks to break this family," which is sweet and sad at the same time. Notably, this is the fundraider Rudy Giuliani was supposed to attend but dropped out of (the Giuliani Partners connection with Bernie was probably too hot) and Governor Pataki praised Pirro - but by satellite. Ouch!

This morning, WNBC aired Gabe Pressman's one-on-oe with Jeanine Pirro, which was taped on Friday. Pirro appears very composed and pissed off, and she continues to talk about herself as a "fighter" and how the investigation was leaked and demands its own investigation. If you really hadn't watch Jeanine Pirro before now, you would now know she's a smooth operator - very genial and competent, when properly prepared (versus getting flummoxed during a speech when pages are missing). Oh, and she's a fighter and she's not backing down. Here's an interesting part of the interview where Pressman tries to ask about Pirro's relationship with husband Al:

PRESSMAN: Isn't it ironic that the man who helped you launch your career, your husband, and has financed it to some extent, or a lot of extent, much extent, that he's in the middle of this thing?

One day is all it took. After it was revealed Republican Attorney General candidate and former Westchester DA Jeanine Pirro was under federal investigation for possibly wiretapping her husband - because she was worried he was cheating on her - it's revealed who the possible "other lady" in Al Pirro's life was: The 35 year old wife of the lawyer who represented Al Pirro in his 2000 tax evasion case. The Post calls Lisa Santangelo "a stunning brunette 20 years [Jeanine's] junior" while the Daily News calls her "elegant". Either way Santangelo is painted as a family friend (plus the Pirros and Santangelos live near each other) but Satangelo wasn't wearing a wedding band when the photogs descended. However, Santangelo's husband told reporters, "I stand by my wife. Due to the fact that there is an ongoing federal investigation, neither my wife or myself can comment. However, we have been friends with the Pirros for many years." And then his law partner issued a statement saying, "We emphatically deny that there was any affair."

This morning, Jeanine Pirro kept her appointment to speak at the New York Hispanic Clergy Association and spoke out against the federal investigation into her possible plans to wiretap her lying and cheating husband (he's lied and cheated before, though it's unclear if there was any lying and cheating last summer). WNBC has footage of today's speech, where she says that she's fought to keep her family together, that she's disturbed by the leaking of court documents, and that's she is asking US Attorney General Alberto Gonzales to investigate who leaked the docs. Hey, can't Bernard Kerik tap someone to find out who did that? Pirro wants an investigation, and people, she is "not rolling over...not this time." So, suck on it, Andrew Cuomo (her rival in the Attorney General race) and all the other polticial pundits who consider her campaign to be dead in the water.

That thud you heard this afternoon? The jaws of Jeanine Pirro's campaign staffers. It turns out that Republican candidate for NY State Attorney General Pirro is under state and federal criminal investigation. WNBC's Jonathan Dienst had the scoop: State and federal agencies were looking into whether Pirro eavesdropped on her husband, who she suspected might be cheating on her. (Well, he did father a love child a couple years into their marriage.)

Oh, its ticket for speeding when he was found going 51 mph in a 25 mph school zone in White Plains (remember that in July he was busted going 98 mph on I-95).

Hundreds of thousands of revelers enjoyed the beautiful weather and celebrated during yesterday's Puerto Rican Day Parade. And this year's theme was, "Boricuas...We count, We Vote!" Though Marc Anthony was the Grand Marshal, the real attraction was his wife, Jennifer Lopez. Mayor Bloomberg, who marched with the couple, said, "In the pictures tomorrow, I will be lucky if I am noticed at all." Anthony and Lopez ultimately needed the help of Guardian Angels to keep the paparazzi off them and keep moving along the parade route. And the couple was also there to promote their upcoming film, El Cantante, but the El Cantante float broke down towards the end of the route.

As if things couldn't get worse for Jeanine Pirro, State Senate Majority Leader Joe Bruno has told the Westchester County DA to get out of the race for US Senate. Pirro has been fighting an uphill battle ever since her campaign started with a flub and the more recent news that her fundraising has been less than stellar. In his statement, Bruno said:

"I have said from the beginning, and I know a lot of my colleagues, and people within the party, share the thought, that she would make a great attorney general. By background, by her experience, by her prosecutorial record. And I hope that before this procedure gets too much further, that Jeanine Pirro would reconsider and run for A.G."

Apparently Senator John McCain in getting all up in New York's business by urging billionaire Thomas Golisano to run for NY governor again. AGAIN! You'll rememember Golisano from such failed campaigns such as his attempts to win the governorship in 1994, 1998, and 2002. Well, it certainly wouldn't be another election without him. And our current lame duck Governor Pataki is stopping by Iowa on his way to Asia. Yes, because those connections in Iowa are so common.

Yesterday in Manhattan, Westchester D.A. Jeanine Pirro made her first lengthy remarks outlining her goals - and attacking Senator Hillary Clinton - and also got fouled up in the middle of her speech when she spent 32 seconds searching for page 10 of her speech and couldn't discuss tax deficit issues. That intern who collated the speech is totally fired! And at a speech in Albany, a Pirro campaign aide apparently didn't plug in a device that fed sound to TV and radio coverage. D'oh! The Daily News says the campaign of Ed Cox, son-in-law of Richard Nixon and another person eyeying the Republican Senate nomination, called her a flip-flopper because Pirro suddenly announced she was against late-term abortions. Hey, did Cox's folks need to consult the Republican Party Style Guide, because we thought flip-flopper was only a word Republicans called Democrats. Anyway, the a new Marist poll shows that the appearance of Pirro turns Clinton's 64% in pre-Pirro days to 50%, but Pirro would still trail by a ton, with only 22%.
