Yesterday we explored commuters who place their bare feet on the subway seats, but just what is the consequence of placing bare skin on anything underground? Well, Dr. Jay Parkinson just happened to discuss the dreaded "subway warts" over at Free Williamsburg recently. He says that "fungi really like warm, moist environments like showers and locker rooms. The last time I put my hand on a subway pole, it wasn't warm nor moist. But it did feel like someone just slimed it with a slice of bologna." Well, slime just can't be good, but in the end he notes that "it's very unlikely that you'd get a fungal infection from casual contact with a subway pole." Frequent hand washing is recommended, however, because that slime could at the very least land you with a nasty cold.

Yesterday there was some chatter about the Hello Health subway ad campaign, mainly how its empty word bubble design (unsurprisingly) acted as a magnet for vandals! AnimalNY mentioned that the MTA was responsible for pulling the ad campaign, which launched when Hello Health opened its doors in Williamsburg. Today, however, they uncovered that there was a little bit of finger pointing going on, and it was actually "CBS Outdoor, the exclusive media managing agency for the MTA's entire system" who requested the creative be changed.

Last year Jay Parkinson emerged as the doctor for the people, making housecalls and treating the uninsured. Now he is launching a franchise operation, called Hello Health, with the first outlet opening in Williamsburg later this month.

A 38-year-old construction worker from Brooklyn is suing New York Presbyterian Hospital for giving him more medical attention than he cared for, and then having him arrested. Brian Persaud went to the ER at NY Presbyterian after a plank hit him on the head at a work site, causing a head laceration that required eight stitches. Although Persaud walked into the ER and was fully mobile, doctors told him that he should get an anal exam to check for a spinal injury (apparently this is not unheard of).

We interviewed hundreds of people this year, from long-time rockers to the designer of New York’s subway map. Here are a few conversations you may have missed:

Recently Williamsburg doc Jay Parkinson unleashed his revolutionary idea onto Brooklyn -- a doctor for the uninsured, medical advice through emails, and the return of the housecall. The word spread fast and now much of the world is looking his way to see if he can change the way healthcare is provided.

EVENT: We're sponsoring, and our publisher is hosting, the NYC Photobloggers event tonight. Come over to the Apple Store to see a dazzling display of digital images and the faces behind the photos: Eliot Shepard, Jay Parkinson (yes, that Jay Parkinson) and a whole lot more will be on hand. There will also be a special presentation by Jen Bekman of 20x200, Hey Hot Shot, and the Jen Bekman Gallery and an after party at Merc Bar.

200709jayparkinson.jpgWe're really surprised no one thought of this sooner: vintage healthcare! Well, sort of. Jay Parkinson declares he is a "new kind of physician," and he is. Revolutionary, in fact. Based out of Williamsburg, he's bringing healthcare to those who wouldn't normally be able to receive it without breaking the bank...giving the uninsured masses a reason to breathe a sigh of relief. He's also mixing this idea with an old one: house calls!

EVENT: NYC Photobloggers will take over the Apple Store again tonight, for the 7th of their events there. The A-list...um, list, of past photographers is a long one. Six more will join the ranks tonight, as they are the centerpieces for this event. They are:

Looking for something to do this Friday? Well, why not start off the night with some photoblogs!
