How did the Juno soundtrack gig come about? Well, Ellen Page told Jason Reitman that she thought Juno would listen to The Moldy Peaches. He downloaded a song and loved it. He then asked for my solo CDs and decided that was the sound he wanted for the film.

The reviews are in for the $180 million production of The Golden Compass, and they’re lackluster at best, which is a pity not just for fans of the novel from which it’s adapted but for New Line Cinema, which was banking on another Lord of the Rings cash cow. THEATER: The esteemed Classical Theatre of Harlem is reviving Peter Weiss’s masterpiece Marat/Sade. The dizzying action takes place in an asylum in France, where the infamous Marquis de Sade is sequestered in 1808. To pass the time, he directs a play about the assassination of Jean-Paul Marat during the revolution. His asylum casting pool yields up some magnificent performances, though the production is almost squelched by the hospital administrator, a tool of Napoleon’s post-revolutionary regime. In the right hands, which CTH certainly has, the whole production is a multi-layered feast of subversion. - John Del Signore

The holidays are upon us. Tomorrow sees the release of two of the more eagerly awaited films of the season, and we haven't even hit Thanksgiving yet! We've been hearing fantastic things about the Johnny Cash biopic ; Phoenix sings all the songs himself. We're not really sure whether that's a plus or not, though, no matter how well he sings.

Tonight at the New School begins the 25th Asbury Shorts of New York, a festival of short subjects from around the world. Guest hosted by Tom Mooney, "President of Headquarters," this fest strives to "give people the opportunity to see these little gems in a real theater format on a big screen." Every year the Oscars honors short subject films and here's a great opportunity for you to see a few of them in the running.
