Despite his lack of control, his coaches have called him clutch. Jim Colborn, his pitching coach with the Dodgers said, "He does stuff that is self-destructive, but he still winds up being successful. That's one of his strengths. He's unbelievable in the clutch. He seems to need his back against the wall to pitch his best." With all those walks, Gothamist is hoping that he's clutch and the change in location helps, or that the Mets hitters are able to get him out of early holes, because if those don't happen, the Mets will be looking for another 5th starter.

The Mets also parted with Joe McEwing, their long-time utility player this week. Despite his poor play last year, Gothamist will miss McEwing who seems to have played hard every time he was given an opportunity. With five years on the team when he was released, McEwing was the 2nd most senior member of the Mets and the only player besides Mike Piazza that was on the 2000 World Series team.

The runs for the Mets came from Eric Valent, David Wright, Mike Cameron, and Jason Phillips. The shutout by the Mets was courtesy of Kris Benson, who pitched six strong innings, Bartolome Fortunato, and Braden Looper. Guess Benson's shoulder is now well rested.

Leiter pitched six innings allowing three runs on six hits, but picked up a no decision. Heath Bell, pithing in only his second Major League game gave up three runs after the Mets took the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Saturday's victory came on a virtual offensive explosion by the Mets. In the fourth inning, the Mets had 6 runs, a season high, and had thoughts of a possible series victory in The Bronx. Mets Catcher, Jason Phillips said, "It's Yankee Stadium, it's the Yankees, and we were 0-6 against them last year. This is the first time I ever beat them. I can finally say I did it. Now let's go do it again." Unfortunately for the Mets, the Yankees turned the tables on Sunday.

In the fifth inning, the Mets nearly lost the lead when Mike Piazza, playing first, had a ball go through his legs. The error resulted in two runs for the Phillies. Piazza certainly isn't playing a pretty first base, with three errors in the past week, but what can the Mets do? The best the Mets can hope for is that Piazza has a miraculous learning curve for his part-time position and he makes as few errors as possible.

The go ahead run came off a home run by forgotten catcher/first baseman Jason Phillips in the 13th inning. Batting .172 entering the game, he was the last person that anyone expected to hit a game winning home run, but in the 13th inning, you'll take anything you can get. The Mets went 4-3 on their road trip, which included a split four game series against the Diamondbacks and a series win against the Central Division leading Astros.

- Jason Phillips suffered a brain cramp when he began trotting to first as if he'd drawn a walk - in reality, it was only 3-2 in the count.
