Last Night's Action: Keeping Things in Perspective

Last Night's Action: Keeping Things in Perspective

76ers 101, Knicks 90: Under most circumstances, losing to one of the worst teams in the NBA would be of concern to the Knicks. But with the death of guard Stephon Marbury's father, it doesn't seem so bad. Marbury played for the first half and scored two points but didn't come back out for the second half. Jamal Crawford had his second straight excellent game, but the Knicks frontcourt couldn't contain Samuel Delambert. The two... more ›

Last Night's Action: Fourth Time a Charm

Last Night's Action: Fourth Time a Charm

Devils 6, Flyers 2: After three failed bids to get Martin Brodeur his 500th career win, the Devils finally provided him some margin of error. They played stingy defense and lit the lamp six times en route to an easy milestone win. Brodeur joins Patrick Roy as the only netminders with 500 wins. Dainius Zubrus got the party started and added an assist. As happy as the Devils are for Brodeur, they're probably happiest that... more ›

Last Night's Action: More Homecooking For The Rangers

Last Night's Action: More Homecooking For The Rangers

Rangers 4 Pittsburgh 2: That’s not a misprint, the Rangers really scored four goals tonight. Scott Gomez got things started for New York with a goal 7:35 into the game. But, Pittsburgh came right back and tied things on a Sergei Gonchar slap shot. But, Sean Avery did what he does best, get under opponents’ skin and he goaded Gary Roberts into a double minor. Roberts should know better and his mistake setup Michal Rozsival’s... more ›

The NBA Returns to Action

The NBA Returns to Action

The Knicks, a team David Stern described as “not a model of intelligent management,” comes into the 2007-08 NBA season with some reasons for optimism - on the court. Zach Randolph and Eddy Curry will be a tough 1-2 punch in the low post while a healthy Jamal Crawford and Quentin Richardson should combine with Stephon Marbury to provide a solid perimeter game. David Lee will give plenty of quality minutes and rebounds for a team that should easily put up over 100 points a night. more ›

Last Night's Action: Nets Wake Up Just In Time

  • Knicks 111, Sonics 93: Eddy Curry carried the load again by scoring 27 points in 30 minutes. and Stephon Marbury decided to contribute a team-high 28. The team finished its trip through the West at 2-3, but that feels a lot better when the last two games were the wins. The Post and The Times have both recently addressed why David Lee hasn't been starting over Jared Jeffries. With Friday's win, New York is now 9-15 when he comes off the bench and 8-8 when he starts. If Coach Isiah Thomas wants to use him for 35 minutes off the bench every night, that might work. But if Lee loses minutes to Jeffries, it will be a severe disappointment. Lee and Curry are the two bright spots on the team this season.

Last Night's Action: Knicks' Streak Reaches Three

  • Hurricanes 5, Islanders 1: Too bad the Islanders' penalty-kill unit isn't working as well as the Devils' power play. New York allowed four goals on the man-advantage and got smoked in Raleigh.

Can a Deeper Bench Give the Nets a Deeper Playoff Run?

Can a Deeper Bench Give the Nets a Deeper Playoff Run?

After bowing out in five games to the Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference semifinals iast season, the Nets didn't feel the need to retool their starting lineup. Who wouldn't be happy with Vince Carter, Jason Kidd, Richard Jefferson and Nenad Krstic on the floor for the tipoff? Instead, they knew their reserves could be better, and that's the weakness they concentrated on in the offseason. Head coach Lawrence Frank should have a better team sitting next to him this season. more ›

CSI:Miami Investigates Disappearance of Nets; Shaq, Zo Among Prime Suspects In Triple Slaying

That lottery pick going to Cleveland is probably looking pretty good to the Nets this morning. Despite a defense-heavy, double-overtime effort, New Jersey once again fell to Miami last night 108-105 at the swamp. Though Shaq was saddled with foul trouble and Richard Jefferson played great defense against Dwayne Wade, the Nets just couldn't put the game away. At one point, R.J. completely blew an uncontested lay-up...which is when Nets fans knew it was over. more ›
