NYPD, Towing Lot Deny Holding Brooklynite's Car

The latest adventure of Brooklynite Jake Bronstein raises an interesting question. To start off, he was loaned a vehicle by a car company that he custom picked the design for (it includes pink dots, a detail that is important later on in the story). Put aside any problems you may have with the corporate shilling for a moment: the car is missing! Or is it? He explains:

The police said they didn’t tow it; their automated number said they didn’t tow it; hell, even my frequent and frantic calls to all of the city’s tow-lots all turned up the same response… “the NYPD does not have this car.” I found a meter-man who said that on occasion cars get towed. And sometimes, just sometimes, they wind up in the system with the wrong plate number. When that happens, you’re pretty much screwed because the city will say they don’t have the car… and because they won’t let you walk around the lots they tow them to, that’ll pretty much be the end of it. Forever.
Taking matters into his own hands, he headed to the Brooklyn Navy Yard towing lot with his girlfriend who managed to scale the brick wall and take one photo before the guards came running. In that photo? His pink-dotted car. The problem: the NYPD and the lot both say his car is not in their possession. During his last call this morning, after giving them the VIN#, plate number, and other assorted details, they told him they didn't have it and that "it would be impossible to take a picture of a car inside."

Jake Bronstein, Internet Personality

Love him or hate him, Jake Bronstein is out there, and chances are you'll run into him or one of his projects any moment now. Recently we asked the man behind the love letters, fun-o-meter and Wookie suit about his latest project: the Fun Idea Text. He also told us a little bit about just what it is he does, and why he does it.

Signed, Sealed and Delivered from Brooklyn

Former FHM editor/MTV Road Ruler, and current all around fun-making machine, Jake Bronstein, is at it again. The NY Post (and everyone else) is reporting on his love letter service. That's right ladies (and gents: his girlfriend Kristina Hoge is a fellow scribe) if you hand over your address, you'll get a hand-written love letter in return. Not an email, mind you--this sucker is actually going to land in your mailbox, just like in the olden days.

It's unclear as to whether or not Jake Bronstein and his Zoomdoggle team are now hired guns for George Lucas & Co., but considering their latest Indiana Jones-themed stunt began on the day of the latest Indiana Jones DVD release, we're guessing it's a safe bet to say they are. Yesterday a Zoomdoggle employee tipster sent us in these photos of IndiHats around town, and another tipster informed us that Zoomdoggle updated their website with the following:

Here's a fun one, call it hat-vertizing, a brim-job, or just one hell of a scavenger hunt, but some Indiana Jones obsessed compatriots of mine have decided to “hide” 800 of these hats in four different cities starting today. In fact, while I type this, teams are cramming them into crannies, nudging them into nooks, and just plain hiding them them in plain sight in LA, San Francisco, Chicago, and right here in New York. Find one and it’s yours to keep. All they ask is that you snap a shot of yourself wearing it and upload it to flickr with the tag “indihat.”
This guy in Chicago seems to be the first to have found one and posted on Flickr, where he alludes to a potential prize being rewarded. Has anyone else spotted one in New York? UPDATE: Someone at Cunning has just told us the marketing campaign "was actually creatively developed and activated by us. [Bronstein's] a friend of ours.... we are his 'Indiana Jones obsessed compatriots'."

  • One lucky pennyAs if that weren't enough, you even get one quarter back! Bronstein notes that he "only wanted to charge 25 cents anyway, but the machine is configured for 50 cents, so I put a quarter in each egg." For the idea-challenged, this is a quite a steal -- and while it may not be a money-making venture for its creator (around $5 was dropped into the machine in about an hour, but it gave over half that back), the pay-off is still fun.

  • Ex-Road Ruler, and current-prankster, Jake Bronstein was back on the streets recently. This time he wasn't trying to get laid by wearing a wookie suit on the subway, he was getting strangers lucky!

With straphangers desperately seeking another Patrick Moberg and Camille Hayton story to warm their commuting hearts (don't deny it), the boys at Zoomdoggle are stepping in to force their own missed connections. Their solution to finding love in the big city boils down to a Wookie suit, pensive stares and an occasional smile.
