Octomom Goes Online

A website—The Nadya Suleman Family— complete with online donation function, has been launched for new mother of octuplets Nadya Suleman and her brood. The site, copyrighted by her PR firm, says "We thank you from the bottom of our hearts—Nadya Suleman and children" and there are photographs of the octuplets (but none of her six older children). Last night, Dateline aired a new interview with Suleman, where the mother faced accusations that she had plastic surgery and was imitating Angelina Jolie. She denied having her lips done, "I have never thought of Angelina Jolie except the last time I saw one of her movies. I think that was years ago. It is so far away from the place I'm in right now to think of think of any celebrity." Suleman also revealed her disability payments have stopped and was using her student loans to "temporarily" pay for things; there's no more loan money but she does live with her harried parents. Also, Ann Curry says NBC did NOT pay for the interview!

Octuplets on TV, Octomom's Mom Calls Her "Unconscionable"

The Today show didn't have Sully and the Flight 1549 crew but it did feature mother of octuplets Nadya Suleman and video footage of the eight tiny tots. Suleman, a 33-year-old mother of 14 kids now, and her fertility doctor have come under fire for irresponsible actions; Suleman says her doctor, Michael M. Kamrava, did nothing wrong and implied that he implanted this many embryos on her five previous visits. Suleman is a single mother who lives with her parents; Radar spoke to her mother Angela, who seems pretty irritated by her daughter's whims, "To have them all is unconscionable to me. She really really has no idea what she's doing to her children and to me. I'm really tired of taking care of the six children and need her to think about how she'll provide for all these children." Angela Suleman, who showed Radar the cramped quarters for so many kids, added, "The truth is that Nadya hasn't worked since she started having her children while [her father] and I battled to pay her bills.

Octuplets Mom's Doctor Under Investigation

After Nadya Suleman's interview with Ann Curry aired on the Today show yesterday, the questions and public outcry grew over the new mother of octuplets. The Medical Board of California announced it was investigating the doctor who implanted six embryos in Suleman. Doctors have said it's highly unusual to implant so many embryos in a woman under 35; Suleman had used IFV successfully earlier times, resulting in six children from five pregnancies.

Octuplets Mom: I Was Really Lonely As A Child

Nadya Suleman, the California woman who just gave birth to octuplets, adding to her six older children, is giving her first interview to Ann Curry for the Today Show and Dateline. Suleman's in vitro fertilization sparked immediate questions from reproductive experts about whether her doctor acted properly: Suleman tells Curry she was implanted with six fertilized eggs, even though the doctor knew she had six kids. The 33-year-old single mom blamed her only childhood, "I just longed for certain connections and attachments with another person that I really lacked, I believe, grow ing up... I didn't feel as though, when I was a child, I had much control of my environment. I felt powerless. Reflecting back on my childhood, I know it wasn't functional." She adds, "I know I'll be able to afford them when I'm done with my schooling" (she needs to complete her master's in counseling) and received $165,000 in disability payments from an injury sustained while working at a mental hospital.

Octuplets (And Mom's Other 6 Kids) Add to Ethical Questions

While the 52-member medical team that delivered a California woman's octuplets earlier this week are being hailed for their skills, medical experts are concerned. Nadya Suleman, 33, already had six children when she decided to be implanted, via in vitro fertilization, with frozen embryos left from previous procedures. NYU Fertility Center program director Dr. James Grifo told CBS News, "I know no physician who would put eight embryos in a patient. We don't do that, because of the risks. Our goal as practitioners is to help patients have a healthy offspring. Single pregnancies, where a single baby is born, are the best outcome. And those alone are risky... But we don't start with in-vitro fertilization treatment... I don't know the story, but it does not make sense...Most of us in this situation, a woman under 35, would only put two embryos back... I don't know people putting six embryos back." Speaking to the LA Times, Suleman's mother said her daughter "is not evil, but she is obsessed with children. She loves children, she is very good with children, but obviously she overdid herself."
