There's no shortage of fiestas this Cinco de Mayo, so pull out the maracas and get going. Dos Caminos has a "Fiesta de la Calle" menu from May 2 through May 5th, a celebration of street festival food. They're offering tacos de chamorro (braised pork shank), baja tacos de pescado (fried fish tacos) and, perros calientes, bacon-wrapped kobe hot dogs stuffed with pickled jalapeños and chihuahua cheese. 24-year-old chef Jessica Floyd has been working between 14 and 17 hours a day for the last two weeks at Islero, the new “modern Spanish” restaurant on 50th Street. The chef, who also handles the pastry program, hasn’t had a break since the place opened 11 days ago, and things aren’t slowing down any time soon. Islero: This new Spanish restaurant (pictured) takes its name from the bull that killed famous toreador “Manolete” in 1947, shocking the nation and resulting in three days of Franco-decreed mourning, during which only funeral dirges were permitted on the radio. Anyway, there’s no bull on the menu, but chef Jessica Floyd, previously of DB Bistro, does have an appetizer of crispy pork belly, olive oil poached apple, fino vinegar jus and candied pinollas.
