While New York is very urban, there are still many places where you can see some wilderness. Here's a list of the Parks Department's 48 Forever Wild Nature Preserves, which total over "8,700 acres of towering forests, vibrant wetlands, and expansive meadows" and include "flying squirrels, bald eagles, and fascinating rare plants." A woman was attacked in Inwood Park as she jogged on Sunday morning. The Post reports that the attack occured "not far" from where the body of 21 year old student Sarah Fox was found in May 2004. The woman had been jogging at 8:30AM, at 217th and Seaman Avenue, when a man "grabbed her around the neck from behind and rubbed something that smelled like Vicks Vap-o-Rub into her eyes." After a struggle, the woman cried and another jogger came by, which made the attacker run away. The Post points out this runner was wearing headphones, as Fox had, and neighborhood women say they never go into the park alone. If you jog, have a jogging buddy or jog where there are others around. It is hard when you live a little further out, but be safe - here's a Google search of "jogging safety tips."

The Daily News speaks with a woman who had been attacked in Inwood Park last year. Both the Daily News and Times paint a picture of the park area near the Henry Hudson bridge, where Fox's body was found (one young woman tells the DN, "My roommate's buying some Mace for me today. This is making me think a lot harder about coming in here alone."; a 57 year-old woman tells the Times, "I put it this way: I don't let my husband up there by himself.").

The medical Examiner's office confirmed that the body found in Inwood Park was Sarah Fox's, the 21 year-old drama student who had been missing since last Wednesday. The ME's office also ruled that it was a strangulation, and the police are treating it as a homicide. Police are not sure if Fox knew her attacker or not, but remarked that the body was found with leaves and branches from a tulip poplar tree, leading them to consider that it was a ritualistic killing. They are also reviewing video surveillance cameras from area stores and checking local sexual offenders, as well as reinterviewing friends and family. Today, many newspapers focus on how Fox was beloved by those who knew her and seemed poised for a promising career on stage. While the circumstances are different, it sadly reminds Gothamist another young, aspiring actress whose life was cut short: Lyric Benson, whose ex-boyfriend killed her in a murder-suicide.

The body was found by one of the hundred volunteers, friends and family members of Fox's, some who traveled from New Jersey to try to help find her. Fox's neighbor called the wooded area where the body was found somewhere "[n]o one would go...at least not of their own volition."
