Staten Island, Brooklyn Handling Obama Inauguration Invitations

In mid-December, the Times reported on a DUMBO company with 65 employees working around the clock to fill a very special order: one million gold-and-black engraved invitations for the inauguration of President-elect Barack Obama on January 20th. Yesterday the Staten Island Advance revealed that Brooklyn isn't the only NYC borough with a role to play in getting the invitations out; workers for Prompt Mailers Inc. on Staten Island are now scrambling to get the precious invites in the mail. Every hour, four machines individually collate, insert and seal 3,100 to 3,500 envelopes each. Floor manager Carlos Oliveras, a U.S. Marine veteran, is particularly excited: "I was a junkie for all things Obama. I couldn't be happier to be a part of this history—indirectly."
