$140K Horse That Died On El Al Flight Was "Kicking Forcefully"
More details have emerged regarding the horse that died on an El Al flight from Belgium to JFK this week. Virteuse, a $140,000 European warmblood was en route to his owner in Illinois when it began "kicking forcefully" around 30 minutes after taking off in Belgium. The Post reports that Virteuse, one of 10 horses on the flight, calmed down but died shortly after. USDA officials are conducting a necropsy to determine the cause of death.

Surprise, surprise—Mayor Bloomberg wasn't really thrilled about questions regarding the $290 million his charity, the Bloomberg Family Foundation, has in off-shore accounts, as reported by the Observer. According to the Daily Politics, Bloomberg said he didn't know where the money was invested, which is "consistent with his agreement with the Conflicts of Interest Board" (he can give advice about his investments, but not know where they are invested). But as the AP's Sara Kugler pointed out, Bloomberg personally signed the 105-page tax return in 2008 that showed the foundation's investments in Mauritius, Cyprus, Japan, Brazil, Luxembourg, the Cayman Islands and Bermuda.

Even though he's claiming he's innocent of insider trading charges, billionaire Raj Rajaratnam is liquidating his Galleon Group hedge fund and preparing to shut it down. In a letter sent to investors, Rajaratnam wrote, "I want to reassure investors of the liquidity of our funds and assure Galleon employees that we are seeking the best way to keep together what I believe is the best long/short equity team in the business. I want to reiterate that I am innocent of all the charges."
