Update: Authorities Uncover Bones In Queens Basement

[UPDATE BELOW]: Investigators searching for the remains of a Baruch College student who disappeared 12 years ago uncovered bones in the basement of a Queens store. Law enforcement officials haven't yet linked the bones to 28-year-old undergraduate student Kristina Kupka, who vanished after her married chemistry professor got her pregnant. According to the Post, an anthropologist and the Medical Examiner's Office are studying the bones to see if they are human. If the remains are human, authorities will conduct further tests to determine if they can be linked to Kupka. more ›

A soaring number of supermarkets, delis, even drugstores have been overcharging for a wide range goods by using inaccurate scales, according to an investigation by the Department of Consumer Affairs [DCA]. City inspectors have issued 2,976 violations so far this year to retailers; a 58 percent increase over last year's 1,882 tickets. The culprits include basically everyone: Whole Foods, Fairway, Gristedes, Associated, D'Agostino's, Pathmark, Key Food, Food Emporium, Met Food, Stop & Shop, Waldbaum's, Foodtown, C-Town, Pioneer, and Western Beef. At the Whole Foods in Columbus Circle, undercover inspectors bought eight pieces of cheesecake weighed with a scale that didn't adjust for the weight of the plastic containers, overcharging $8.58. more ›

FIre officials say it's standard to meet with the owner of the home, but for whatever reason hadn't been able to speak with 50 until now, even after numerous attempts.
