NJ Man Arrested For Killing, Raping 7-Month-Old Girl
Newark resident Oquan Blake was arrested for allegedly raping and killing the 7-month-old baby girl of a woman he once dated. Blake, who was recently released from jail and has a "dozen arrests for drug and weapons charges," was reportedly upset that the baby's mother spent time with her friend. According to the Star-Ledger, "The baby’s 21-year-old mother, who was planning to attend an event in Manhattan for Gay Pride Week, instead spent the day at a female friend’s home in Newark, authorities said." When the mother returned, she called police because the baby was unresponsive: "The infant was taken to University Hospital in Newark with a fractured skull, ruptured spleen, broken ribs, bruising to the spine and a lacerated liver."

The police arrested a man for abusing his 8-month-old son to death. The medical examiner's office says that baby Elijah Rodriguez had "blunt trauma to the abdomen" (the Daily News says there were "fist-shaped bruises" there), attributing his death to "fatal child-abuse syndrome." His 21-year-old father, John Rodriguez, was charged with murder and manslaughter; he and the baby's mother Wanda Rosado, who were living at a Bronx shelter for homeless families, were already being monitored because Elijah had a broken arm in the summer. Rosado apparently "rushed" at Rodriguez when he was being led from the stationhouse. She told the Post, "I wanted to kill him. He will suffer for this."
Bronx Teen Charged with Killing her Baby
A homeless Bronx teenager charged with killing her newborn child, and the woman who took in the teen is devastated. The Daily News reports that Esther Pastrana, 17, had been kicked out of a friend's Manhattan home, where a neighbor, who saw Pastrana "weeping in the hallway," called Lysdell Ocasio. Ocasio (pictured), who readily agreed to house the teen, repeatedly asked Pastrana if she was pregnant, but she denied it. On Saturday, Ocasio's husband found the teen on the bathroom floor, tried to revive the baby and called 911. While Pastrana said she dropped the baby, cops say the 5-pound boy was strangled. Ocasio was stunned, "The fact that she could have called out for help - 'Help me, I'm giving birth!' She could have told me, 'I'm having labor pains!'"

A bookkeeper for a Manhattan printing company pleaded not guilty to killing his 13-month-old daughter. Peter O'Keffe was arrested on Sunday after his wife returned to their Queens home after running errands on Saturday, to find their child unresponsive on the floor and her husband missing. A mother discovered a horrible scene when she returned home from shopping on Saturday. Louise Rojas' 13-month-old baby was on the floor and unresponsive and her husband Peter O'Keeffe, who was supposed to be baby-sitting, was nowhere to be found.
