Photograph of an Obama volunteer in Harlem by Angela Radulescu on Flickr Your Super Tuesday primary vote did count, although it may not have initially. The NY Times did some digging around after noticing, according to the unofficial results the media relies on, 80 NYC voting districts recorded no votes for Obama, even in neighborhoods with large black populations. The city has now "confirmed some major discrepancies between the vote totals reported publicly —......

The weekend got off to a violent start last night with a number of shootings and stabbings around the city. Six young men were shot or stabbed on the streets of New York Friday night and police have made no immediate arrests, primarily because there are no apparent motives for any of the crimes. 1010WINS runs through the casualties: Jose Batista and a friend were both shot in the stomach while on West 34th around......

In case you haven't yet heard the good news, the Red Hook vendors have gotten their permit extended through through October 21, which is when they traditionally end their season. Go and grab some pupusas. Can you live off the land in your own backyard? In Brooklyn? Without torturing your family? Unclear. Manhattan User's Guide gives us their latest hot list, including newcomers Tailor and Market Table. Andrew Carmellini admits to smuggling $12,000 worth of......

This past weekend was notable for a number of shootings that left many injured and at least three dead. In Harlem, police have been looking for any links in three shootings that occurred between 10PM and 11PM Saturday night. Two 22-year-olds were shot at Lenox and 125th, a 17-year-old was shot at Lenox and 137th and a 15-year-old was shot on Lenox (at a pizzeria) between 125th and 126th. Here's a heads up on sunny summertime shows. Sure, after the first week we'll be complaining about the heat, the smell of the city as it melts, and the lack of shade...but it's always nice to have some music to look forward to. So stock up on the SPF for the following shows: Celebrate Brooklyn picks (full schedule here, always the most diverse lineup) • June 16th Joan Osborne, The Jazz Passengers: The Supremes Project......

With all this talk about venues closing, opening, renaming and branding themselves...it's easy for the little venues that aren't so publicized to get lost in the shuffle. Perhaps that's good, because once you find a nice small (no drink minimum) jazz club, you don't want everyone to know about it. However, you want it to stay in business, too. Over In Brooklyn (the blog) has a list of jazz spots in the borough, and a......

- As part of his "gearing up for Morandi" mode, Bruni takes a return trip to Balthazar and was not a happy camper. - The NY Sun brings us the fantastic news that the Mercadito team are expanding their empire. Callecito, which will focus on Mexcian street food, will be across the street from their Avenue B branch and is slated to open in June. - Grub Street's Josh Ozersky (a.k.a. Mr. Cutlets) recently taunted......

In Brooklyn, drug dealer Kenneth "Supreme" McGriff is on trial for racketeering and his involvement in two murders. Closing arguments were made, but Federal Judge Frederic Block made his own memorable comments about the prosecution's desire to seek the death penalty: “Will you kindly advise Washington that in this judge’s opinion, there is no chance in the world there would be a death penalty verdict in this case? If I’m wrong, I will have egg......

There are special, electrical treats tonight. In Brooklyn, Prospect Park in Lights will be illuminated, with a special ceremony at Grand Army Plaza at 6PM. If you can't make it there in time, take comfort in knowing that four of the park's entrances will be lit up through January 7. And as mentioned just now,the Lincoln Center Holiday Tree will be lit, with help from Mickey and Minnie Mouse (thank you, ABC/Disney, which has offices......

Everyone loves that old summer classic: corn on the cob. But too many years of the sub-par supermarket variety, simply boiled, can ruin your taste for it. Enter the new corn on the cob, in its gussied-up Mexican incarnation, elotes. Also called esquites, this is guaranteed to renew your passion. Most important, in this version, the corn is grilled, preferably over charcoal. Then it’s rolled in a good coating of crumbled cotija cheese (grated Parmesan......

The week is short and there really isn't a huge amount going on in the venues until the weekend. Plus, it's going to be about 1000 degrees, so packing in to a small sweaty venue isn't highest on our list of priorities. Here's what we do suggest, and as usual - feel free to list some shows in the comments. Tonight Sunn O:))), Oren Ambarchi, Boris are at Avalon. Sunn O:))) is probably the most......

Another week begins and it's time to start penciling in some shows. Tonight, The Concretes are back! The Scandinavian 8+ person band will be playing Bowery Ballroom. While over at Sin-e King of France, Less and Dawn Landes play a more intimate gig. Tuesday night Guillemots, Levy, The Marina play Bowery. The name Guillemots has been overwhelming our inbox lately, but we've yet to give it a good listen. From what we can tell they're......

According to our friends at Curbed, Broadway Panhandler will be moving to 8th Street (at Mercer) in August. It's one of Gothamist's favorite kitchen supply stores. You can't beat their Le Creuset sale every January, their customer service is terrific and they offer knife sharpening each weekend (call in advance to confirm times: 866-266-5927). This move will complete a troika of kitchenware store openings and moves within the past year. Among our other favorite sources,......

March 31: A Short Introduction to Wine Join the folks at Tasting World as they give you a down and dirty wine primer in just an hour. By the end, they claim that "you will exit the class knowing how to taste, evaluate and communicate about wine." This is all fine and good, but what really caught our eye was that they are looking for wine pourers for future events -- which means you get......

So, with Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz's dream of finding a perfect slogan for Brooklyn comes the reailty that there's no one slogan that's good enough for the borough. Instead, the borough will use a variety of civilian-suggested slogans for different campaigns. According to the Daily News, "the Brooklyn Tourism Partnership will use several slogans - which range from the classy ('Brooklyn: Bridge to the World') to the wacky ('Brooklyn: The Tenth Planet') and possibly......

If there's snow, there's likely to be some sort of electrical shock potential. There were two instances of dogs, and their companions, being shocked. In Brooklyn Heights, one dog from a dog walker's pack was shocked on a sidewalk at Clark and Hicks Streets; Con Ed said the cause was "stray voltage" and now the issue was being dealt with, even though dog walkers have complained about that patch for two years. The dog, who......

- Friday night in Jamaica, Rowland Erby killed Wayne Fung with a bayonet because he thought Fung was flirting with his girlfriend. A bayonet? Serious? What's next? Shooting by musket? Terror by cannon? Bombing by balloon? At least Erby kept it in the right place, the attic. Erby was arrested at the scene and charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon. - In the Bronx, a man was killed in a drive......

Prepare for subway confusion: Subway service comes back to the Manhattan Bridge which means seven subway lines are affected. In the words of the MTA: In Brooklyn, the B replaces the Q, and the D replaces the W. The N runs express and travels over the bridge. There's all new express service along Sixth Avenue, too. The Times' article points out that with the advent of the Metrocard, the MTA has more accurate data on......
