Last year it was announced that the New York State Division of Tourism was looking to spend a pretty penny on their campaign which included a revitalization of the classic 31-year-old "I ♥ New York" logo. Enter Saatchi & Saatchi, the ad agency that received part of the $17 million bucks to get the job done. And what did they do? They added a squirrel, a butterfly and some snow. How inspired! The Tribble Agency says the city should invest in a high school kid with access to Microsoft Paint next time.

Gucci has been touting its love (or ♥) of New York with a new "Gucci ♥ NY" line of luxury products and 46,000 flagship store on Fifth Avenue, but its legal department never cleared the usage of the trademarked "I ♥ NY" logo. According to the Post, the Empire State Development agency was never contacted for permission.

Graphic designers tend to be an even-keeled lot, unless you mess with their precious Futura typeface plans. So at Monday night’s The Art of the Book: Covers With Dave Eggers, Chip Kidd and Milton Glaser, moderated by designer Michael Bierut at the 92nd Street Y, we weren’t surprised that book jacket designer and author Kidd made nice with Panelist Four – a man well into his senior years who boosted the show from the first row.

"Everyone has their stereotypes of being cold and heartless," Mr. McCarthy said. "I've only felt warm feelings from everyone."Well, that makes sense because New York is the world's most polite city! When McCarthy and his girlfriend return, he will take the NYPD up on their offer of an escort to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. They were also planning on heading to other NYC tourist must-sees: The American Museum of Natural History, the Staten Island Ferry, and Gray's Papaya.

- And in this update about the closest baby panda to NY, aka the little guy in DC at the National Zoo, it looks like his eyes are open!
