Early this morning, NYPD Emergency Service Unit officers were shot by a man who had barricaded himself—as well as his pregnant girlfriend and their baby—in a Brooklyn apartment. Mayor Bloomberg visited the officers, who are expected to survive, and said that when the girlfriend "managed to escape with the baby, the officers began to enter and the suspect opened fire. The officers returned fire, striking the suspect who is currently being treated at Kings County Hospital." The officers, whose injuries range from being grazed in the face to being shot twice in the leg, are expected to survive. And police say they found other illegal guns in the suspect's apartment.

Gun Show Undercover is not a new Dick Wolf crime procedural—it's actually NYC's report on the city's investigation into illegal gun sales. According to the city's press release, "The investigation, which covered seven gun shows in three states, proves on video how easy it is for criminals to buy firearms at gun shows. 35 of 47 gun sellers sold to people who said either they probably could not pass a background check or to apparent 'straw purchasers.'" Plax's Lawyer Blames Bloomberg, Morgenthau For Indictment
With former Giants star Plaxico Burress indicted on gun charges, his lawyer Benjamin Brafman said, "Although disappointed, we are not surprised, as the facts of this case have not been in dispute since the date of the incident. When you have the mayor and the district attorney both publicly demanding a maximum prison sentence, it was perhaps too much to hope for the grand jury to conduct a sympathetic review of the unique facts of this sad case."
Plaxico Burress Gun Case Adjourned Till June
Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress arrived at criminal court in lower Manhattan this morning and both the Manhattan DA's office and Burress's lawyer agreed to have his gun case adjourned until June 15. Burress remains free on $100,000 bail.
Suffolk County's Popular Gun Buyback
were asked them for their names. The police say the officers may have asked for IDs "so they could call them to let them know when additional gift cards have come in," but one miffed woman who turned in her late father's seven illegal guns said, "Anonymous is not 'Give us your name and number and in two weeks you'll get your gift card.'" Now the Suffolk County police say anyone who turns in an illegal gun won't get a gift card—nor will they get their illegal gun back!
