Hipsters Illegally Killed Upstate Deer While Making Hipster Apocalypse Movie

One of the features to be shown during this year's Tribeca Film Festival is First Winter, which is also known as the fest's "hipster apocalypse movie" because it features Brooklyn hipsters stranded in a remote country farmhouse. Now, as the festival draws near, it turns out that the film crew didn't have a license to shoot and kill two deer! And the hipster film crew killed the deer outside of deer hunting season! more ›

Feral Boars Are Running Wild Upstate

Feral Boars Are Running Wild Upstate

Forget giant rats or pizza-loving, petting zoo poseurs: feral boars are just (300) miles away in sleepy Peru, New York, feasting on apples and other crops and copulating like, well, pigs that start having sex at the age of six months. “There’s a real sense of urgency,” Ed Reed, a biologist at the DEC tells the Times. “Once the pigs get established, they are very difficult to eradicate completely.” When will Governor Cuomo follow Texas' lead and allow us to kill them with automatic weapons from helicopters? more ›

200 Bears Killed On First Day Of NJ Bear Hunt

200 Bears Killed On First Day Of NJ Bear Hunt

Shooting black bears is as New Jersey as GTL or misplacing $600 million. Thankfully for the state's tourism board, a court ruled against activists attempting to block the festivities, and the six-day hunt is in full-swing, with over 200 bruins "harvested" so far. One hunter who killed a 181.5 lb bear explained to the Star-Ledger that it was for the animal's own good. "If I had a choice, I'd rather be shot than freeze to death over several months." Serves them right for not evolving enough to survive the winter in some sort of dormant state! more ›

Activists Running Out Of Time To Prevent NJ Black Bear Hunt

Activists Running Out Of Time To Prevent NJ Black Bear Hunt

Environmental groups have sued to stop New Jersey's six-day black bear hunt after 589 of the animals were killed last year. An appeals court is scheduled to hand down a ruling tomorrow, as the season begins on Monday. "The back bear policy is full of scientific flaws, self-contradictions and outright fabrications," Doris Lin, director of legal services for New Jersey's Bear Education and Resource Group tells CBS. The bears should probably pay whoever is lobbying for the coyotes in Trenton to reduce their sentence to sprinklers. more ›

Would You Kill Your Own Dinner?

Would You Kill Your Own Dinner?

Knowing that your food came at the expense of another animal's life is the eternal plight of the omnivore. And though it's impractical to hunt for your own meals in the city, New Yorkers must come to terms with the deed often done for them like anyone else. But given the option, could you kill your own meal? Some New York Yelpers have and lived to tell the tale. more ›

140 Bears Killed In First Day Of New Jersey Bear Hunt

For the first time in five years, the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection has called for a bear hunt to reduce the black bear population and bear complaints. The six-day hunt is being held in seven counties, mostly in the northwest, and aims to reduce the approximate bear population of 3,400 by 300 to 400. The DEP says 140 bears have been killed already today, and one protester has been arrested. more ›

Osama Hunter Wanted to "Boost" bin Laden For Justice

Osama Hunter Wanted to "Boost" bin Laden For Justice

CIA Director Leon Panetta gave a sobering interview with ABC's "This Week" yesterday, in which he said the US has had no solid intelligence on Osama bin Laden's whereabouts for years. While being interviewed on the program, Panetta summarized the difficulties with the war in Afghanistan, and with the hunt for bin Laden, saying that the last "precise information" US officials had on the terrorist leader was in "the early 2000s": "Since then, it's been very difficult to get any intelligence on his exact location. He is, as is obvious, in very deep hiding ... He's in an area of the tribal areas of Pakistan." But in that case, maybe the CIA should be outsourcing their intelligence to the Osama Hunter. more ›

Psych Exam For Man Who Was Hunting Osama bin Laden

Psych Exam For Man Who Was Hunting Osama bin Laden

Guess what: Pakistani authorities have conducted psychological tests on the American man apparently on the trail of Osama bin Laden who was arrested near the Afghanistan border. Gary Brooks Faulkner, a 50-year-old Colorado resident, was found armed and a source told the AFP, "They are asking him a lot of things, especially about the sword and dagger that look like ceremonial weapons. He said he wanted to kill Usama but killing Usama with a sword and dagger is not child's play. Carrying a pistol and such a long sword is definitely a crime but we need a lot more clarifications." more ›

Schumer Grabbed Shotgun To Get Health Care Bill Done

Senator Chuck Schumer may feel more at home riding his bike around Prospect Park and chilling with Jay-Z at the Pool Parties, but when it comes to the people's business, he's ready to grab a gun and kill some pheasants. This photo was taken during a recent hunting trip with Senator Ben Nelson of Nebraska, who ended up as the Senate's last holdout on the health care bill. Of course, both men swear they didn't talk business during their male bonding weekend, but that's exactly what Dick Cheney and Antonin Scalia claimed about their little hunting trip in 2004, weeks after the Supreme Court decided to hear the Sierra Club's lawsuit against Cheney. more ›

2008_11_hunter.jpgThe second day of hunting season claimed one more life than anyone would have hoped for when a toddler was accidentally shot and killed inside her grandmother's trailer in Swan Lake.
