Husband Of Woman Whose Heart & Lungs Were Cut Out Sues NYPD

The husband of a woman who was brutally murdered by a man she sought police protection from is suing the NYPD for $15 million dollars. You may recall, with horror, that the victim, Qian Wu, 46, was allegedly bludgeoned and stabbed to death by 47-year-old suspect Huang Chen, who prosecutors say cut out her lungs and heart after beating her with a hammer 18 times. This happened in Wu's Flushing apartment building in January 2010, as she returned from the store with milk. Days before her death, Wu filed a harassment claim against Chen with the NYPD, who told her she needed to renew a protective order before they could take action. more ›

Merciless Murderers on Trial

Merciless Murderers on Trial

Some murder cases that became high profile stories because of their utter inhumanity and depravity of the crimes are now in the courts. A Brooklyn court is hearing about murder of Ramona Moore, a Hunter college student who was raped and attacked with a knife, saw and barbell while chained in a basement by two men in 2003. Kayson Pearson and Troy Hendrix are charged with Moore's murder, and burn marks found on her disfigured face indicated they were in the Bloods. The prosecution's witness is someone who Pearon and Hendrix bragged to about "having a girl" - they showed him the tortured figure of Moore. The Daily News writes, "[Witness Raymondo] Jack never called the police, and Moore's body was found weeks later after an anonymous caller tipped the family - responding to desperate posters seeking info on their missing loved one." more ›

Food Delivery Dangers

Food Delivery Dangers

In NYC, our food delivery is plentiful and makes life that much easier. Many deliverymen, as well as restaurant waiters, busboys and dishwashers, cleaners, and cabdrivers, are immigrants supporting families here and sending money home. Gothamist recommends that you try to give an extra dollar when you can. We know, we all have budgets to watch, but maybe you don't need that caramel macchiato and can do with a regular coffee. more ›

Murdering for Sneakers

Murdering for Sneakers

The brutal murder of Huang Chen, 18, who was killed when delivering food for his parents' Chinese restaurant, seems to have been motivated by Air Jordan sneakers. Nayquan Miller and Charles Bryant, both 16, with other suspects, ordered $10 of food, then robbed Chen of $49 then beat and murdered him, even after Chen pleaded for his life. Miller and Bryant were charged as adults with second-degree murder, robbery, tampering with physical evidence and criminal possession of a weapon. Air Jordans cost about $150. City Councilman John Liu told the Post, "I think certainly there is some profiling going on here by these animals who see these immigrant workers as easy targets." more ›
