Visit Victorian Flatbush

The tour of Victorian Flatbush was nearly canceled this year, but Brownstoner points out that the show will go on. This Sunday you're invited to take a very close look at the neighborhood, which was developed over 100 years ago "to be a piece of suburban living just minutes from Manhattan." Your ticket will get inside 10 homes, but sadly, you'll have to go back to your own digs at the end of the day with some serious real estate envy. We can barely even look. Get more details here (tickets must be purchased by tomorrow).

Reacting to a surge in foreclosures, the city will begin overseeing a program to turn boarded-up houses into renovated homes. Announced in October, the Neighborhood Stabilization Program will subsidize housing rehabilitation through a nonprofit group, which will hold title to the properties until they can be sold to families making roughly $80,000 to $90,000 a year.

Earlier this year we looked at the $1 Victorian Flatbush home; since then the area has earned a This Old House Top 12 Places to Buy title, and filled the role of "The Hamptons" on Gossip Girl. Could the neighborhood be Brooklyn's next diva? Take a look at some of the gorgeous houses in the very un-city like setting. [via Mercurialn's Flickr]

According to witnesses, 17-year-old Jessica Williams got a powerful punch in the mouth after mouthing off to NYPD housing cop Desmond Nichols last Sunday outside the Tompkins Houses in Bed-Stuy. The trouble started when Nichols stopped Williams for riding her bike on the sidewalk and asked to see her I.D. When pressed for her apartment number, she reportedly dismissed Nichols as a "rookie." This struck a nerve with Nichols (who is, in fact, a rookie), and he allegedly punched her in the face, remarking, "I had enough of your smart mouth." Williams's jaw broke in two places, and she's awaiting surgery to insert metal plates. After that, a lawsuit! Nichols is under investigation, but he insists Williams threw the first punch. After the altercation he charged her with resisting arrest and marijuana possession.

This month many have been fooled into thinking this house, which is in Toronto, was actually in Brooklyn, NY. While the tiny abode is nowhere near any of the five boroughs, there are some little residential gems amongst us (albeit still bigger than most city apartments).
