Some residents who have been living at the Hotel Chelsea for a short period of time (longer than 30 days, less than six months) received a letter this week. No, it wasn't tucked in a welcome basket, rather it was informing them they were expected to check out later this month.

• Today on the Gothamist Newsmap: a boat in distress off the Breezy Point Jetty in Queens, a bank robbery on 14th St. and 5th Ave. in Brooklyn, and a stabbing on East 115th St. in Manhattan.
• Jay Jay French, the guitarist for Twisted Sister, is upset that an Upper West Side Florist that's been in the neighborhood for 87 years is being forced to move to New Jersey due to higher rents.
• Living With Legends: Hotel Chelsea Blog posts that board member David Elder called the NYPD bomb squad to the hotel after receiving what he deemed a suspicious package. It was suspicious in that it didn't contain a bomb, but a fish head.
• All is not serene at the Hare Krishna Sanctuary on 1st Ave. between 1st and 2nd Sts., as one group of followers is attempting to evict another group.
• Bruce Ratner may lose $100 million in city subsidies for his Atlantic Yards project unless drastic revisions are made to the conditions of the tax breaks.
• Ugly Outfits New York. Further explanation is simply unnecessary.
• If you've been hunting for a co-op to buy into that comes with a pre-installed stripper pole and mini-stage in the living room, Curbed may have found something for you. We'd love to sit in on that co-op board interview.
• ConEd announced that it would pay businesses for any physical damages caused by last week's steam explosion, but won't pay anything for lost business while the frozen zone around the blast site was being cleaned.

On Sunday we posted about the Bard Family being all but dismissed from their post at the Hotel Chelsea. As the interrogation spotlight continues to shine in the faces of the faceless "Board" that made the decision, a press release was sent out to explain what's going on behind the famous doors.

The Hotel Chelsea Blog has been breaking a story from their ground floor this weekend. The Bard Family, who have run the hotel for...ever, have been told their job is done (whether they like it or not).

The Hotel Chelsea Blog explores theories about the hotel's most famous couple. This year marks the 29th anniversary of Nancy Spungen's death, who was murdered in room 100 of the legendary hotel. Since then, questions and rumors have surrounded her death - which was pinned on Sid Vicious.

EVENT: What do Bob Dylan and the Brooklyn Bridge have in common? They both get a year older today! Bob turns 66 and the Bridge turns 124. To help celebrate the latter, there's a bike ride across the structure. There will also be cake and historical stories to keep you physically and mentally satiated.

MUSIC: It's hard to believe Kurt Cobain would have been 40 today. In celebration of his birthday and life there will be live performances of Nirvana albums Bleach, Nevermind and In Utero from Daouets, The Domestics, and Schwervon with some other musical guests. Bring flannel, your inner teen angst, and rock out like it's the early 90s.

Edie Sedgwick, "It" girl of the 60s, once said her colorful life could never be accurately portrayed on The Big Screen. However, now it is (though it's accuracy is in question). The actress playing Edie is Sienna Miller, has just finished reshooting some scenes for the movie (called Factory Girl) that is supposed to be out sometime in the next month.

We really love the Hotel Chelsea Blog, Living With Legends. We're not just saying that so they'll invite us over to play or give us a free room. We just really like reading reports from the front lines of where true rock n' roll behavior of past, present and future co-exist. Today they report on Devendra Banhart's recent visit to the hotel to shoot a video for his song Heard Somebody Say. Apparently he trashed the hotel room. Oh Devendra, we didn't know you had it in you. Maybe these sort of antics will help shed the "freak folk" label. Or expand upon it. Could go either way.
