Earlier this week, we were horrified by the video of two New Jersey men beating up a homeless man, seemingly for fun. Taylor Giresi, 20, and a 17-year-old accomplice were both arrested and charged with aggravated assault; they're also accused of stealing 50-year-old victim David Ivins bicycle as well. And now, Ivins has reportedly suffered a seizure.

East Village Resident: There's A St. Mark's Crapper On The Loose
We received an email today from reader Jordy Trachtenberg, who relates the story of his one-man campaign to rid St. Mark's of a neighborhood homeless man, who he claims has been defecating in public. Trachtenberg told us that he's started posting fliers of the man around the neighborhood as a way to shame him into going away: "I don’t want to hurt this man; I do want to freak him out so he’s scared to come back." Read an excerpt from the email below:
Family Horrified That NYers Ignored Dying Homeless Man
The family of a homeless man who was ignored by dozens of passers-by as he was dying on a Jamaica, Queens street expressed their grief over his death and New Yorkers' callousness. Edwin Tacam told the Post "That shouldn’t have happened," and said his cousin Hugo Alfredo Tale-Yax "wouldn't have done that. It’s not important who it is, if we see someone hurt, we should help, at least call an ambulance. Lend a hand."
People Ignored Homeless Man Dying Of Stab Wounds
Earlier this week, firefighters found the body of a homeless man stabbed to death on a Jamaica, Queens street. Police believe he was killed when trying to stop an attack on a woman. Now surveillance video not only shows part of the his struggle with the attacker but also that pedestrians walked by the dying man—and ignored him—for over an hour.
Police Investigate Fatal Stabbing Of Homeless Man
A homeless man was stabbed to death yesterday morning in Queens. According to WABC 7, "The violence erupted at 88th Road and 144th Street in Jamaica," and it's believed he was killed while trying to break up a fight between a man and a woman. The Post spoke to a man who saw the incident replayed on surveillance video, and the video apparently showed a woman walking on 144th Street, "at 7:20 a.m. when two thugs accosted her from behind and 'one of the men tried to grab her wallet.'" The homeless man was stabbed multiple times.
City Shelter Worker Borrows $600. From Homeless Man.
The NY Post suggests that a "homeless man was better off than the city employee paid to protect him," because the employee--Department of Homeless Services security officer Robert Proctor--borrowed $600 from the homeless man in November 2006. Apparently the homeless man filed a complaint against Proctor when he only paid back $350 of the money by March 2007. Proctor admitted he violated the City Charter and "agreed to a 10-day suspension, worth $1,499.50, a loss of 10 vacation days, which total $770 in value, and a one-year probation period." He has also since paid off the loan. Other things the Conflicts of Interests Board has been dealing with: Term limits.
Homeless Man Found Murdered Near Sikh Temple in Queens
Yesterday morning, a man was discovered beaten to death, near a Sikh temple in South Richmond Hill on 118th Street. WABC 7 reports his body was "found in a pool of blood, his facial features barely recognizable." It's believed the weapon was a broomstick, as splintered pieces of one were found near the scene. Shocked neighbors described him as a homeless, non-practicing Sikh; one said he was often drunk and sometimes fought with other homeless men, "There have been like a few fights, when they're drunk...but nothing like this." The Sikh Cultural Society's lead priest told the Daily News, "I feel very, very bad because he comes from our community. Anybody who dies, anybody in the world, we feel badly."
Scent of a Man Interrupts Lohan and Ronson
After reading about Samantha Ronson and Lindsay Lohan's romantic afternoon yesterday in the city (Chanel in SoHo, lunch at Bar Pitti, dinner at Gemma and a party at the Bowery Hotel), we were going to write that if their much-rumored relationship is a publicity stunt, it's totally working. And then we saw this caption accompanying the photos of their afternoon of summer lovin', courtesy of WireImage:
"Lindsay Lohan and Samantha Ronson hold their breath while approached by a homeless man on the streets of Manhattan"That's the sort of thing that just can't be taught at publicity school. Bravo Lohanson!
