On Friday Gothamist visited the set of Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Undead, a bizarre little indie shooting in the East Village. The movie is a sequel of sorts to Tom Stoppard’s hilarious existential comedy Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead, but with “sexy vampires, the Holy Grail and Hamlet.” Jake Hoffman (son of Dustin), who appeared on some Arrested Development episodes, is a broke, frustrated ladies man who jumps at the chance to direct an off-Broadway play written by a pale, mysterious Romanian, played by John Ventimiglia, best known as Artie Bucco in the Sopranos. "Holy Grail" of Graffiti Uncovered Amidst Condo Conversion
Recently, legend became reality when a 10-story building in SoHo was being converted to a luxury condo. Unearthed in the walls was a large mural created by graffiti pioneers Fab Five Freddy and Futura 2000.The artwork contains a variety of images and writing executed in spray paint, grease pencil, magic marker and whatever else was on hand — in silver, gold, pink and red. There are cartoonlike pictures of a bomber airplane, images of a...
Secrets Don't Make Friends
It’s hard to keep a secret in this town. Maybe with so many people, so close together privacy seems a foreign concept. But as we learned on the playground back in third grade, “secrets, secrets are no fun, unless they are for everyone.” God, we were so smart back then. That being said, you probably know all about the Monday Room.
Sneakers, Graffiti and Controversy North of Houston
As part of Adidas's new spring line of End to End sneakers for Foot Locker, the German shoe manufacturer has created an EndtoEnd Project exhibit in an empty lot on Lafayette and Houston. Adidas had different graffiti artists create designs for shoes in an East London warehouse, so in bringing the finished shoes to the states, Adidas has the artists tagging a replica of a NYC subway car!
Who Better to Complain to About NYU Profs' "Liberal Bias" Than Fox News?
Since NYU hasn't had a Minutemen style brouhaha lately, some NYU students - including two College Republicans - appeared on Neil Cavuto's Fox News program to detail the difficulties of being a conservative in the classroom. From the Washington Square News:
Senior Sara Zerner and NYU College Republicans David Laska and Christina Gonzalez participated in a short segment of "Your World With Neil Cavuto," after Fox News approached the NYU College Republicans.more ›
Elsewhere in the ist-a-verse
As fall settles in and another calendar page gets turned, thoughts turn from bbq's and vacations to holidays and the realization that '06 is coming to an end. With all that going on, with change in the air, we wonder what is it that made that makes the -ists ponder?

The Coolest Birthday Party We Can't Have
Gothamist was exploring various options for a birthday party, and we stumbled upon what might be the Holy Grail of parties: A Bronx Zoo Sleepover! Just look at what you would get to do:
A sleep-over at the zoo is unforgettable, especially when it's above the world's greatest zoo exhibit - the Congo Gorilla Forest. An animal guest will welcome your child and friends to our private Congo Party Room. The birthday group will take a nocturnal safari to watch sea lions splashing in the dark, and listen for the calls of owls. In the morning, they'll watch the zoo come to life, and have the gorilla forest to themselves. An ANIMAL GUEST will welcome you! But, unfortunately, this birthday party is only open to kids ages 8-12. Oh, and it's $4500 for up to 15 kids. Gothamist guesses we'll have to settle on a bar or something as we're not 12 anymore.
Theater Review: Spamalot
Last weekend Gothamist lucked out once again with tickets, and got to see Spamalot. The show has been relentlessly promoted, and with 14 Tony nominations now they’re especially shameless about it, but fortunately it’s a great production. We hadn’t seen Monty Python and the Holy Grail in some time, so after seeing the musical we decided to rent the DVD and do a little comparison.
What's So Funny About 'Biggus Dickus'?
(1979) over at Makor at the Steinhardt Theater (35 W. 67th Street). No matter what ails you, a few sacreligious jokes by Eric Idle, John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Terry Jones and Michael Palin will fix you up right quick. Poor Brian. He doesn't want to be the messiah. He just wants to join the People's Front of Judea. Or is it the Judean People's Front? All he knows is, "I'm not a Roman, Mum. I'm a kike, a yid, a heebie, a hook-nose. I'm kosher, Mum. I'm a Red Sea pedestrian, and proud of it!"
