Controversy Surrounds Renaming Of Brooklyn Street For Italian Activist

Street renaming can be fairly a fairly controversial process, as seen in the Sean Bell Way renaming in 2009. Now, Borough Park residents are beginning to scrutinize the life of Zachary Sansone, a founder of the Congress of Italian American Organizations, who served in Mussolini's army and is close to having his name attached to 59th street between 14th and 15th avenues. Rabbi Chaim Israel told CBS News that the community "doesn't have enough information as to what Mr. Sansone's role was in the fascist Italian army during the second World War." more ›

Holocaust Musical Opens, Unsurprisingly, To Bad Reviews

When will theater producers ever learn? Holocaust. Musicals. Do. Not. Work. Say it with us, now. Today we catch wind of a new Holocaust-themed musical at Roundabout Theater Company, The People In The Picture, that is, shockingly, opening to dismal reviews. Oh, and did we mention that it's written by the author of the Bette Midler-Barbara Hershey weepy classic Beaches? more ›

When Sending Holocaust Denial Emails, Doublecheck "To" Field

Michael Santomauro, whose son is a third grader at P.S. 290 on the Upper East Side, was up late on the night of January 15th, toiling on a vital e-mail intended to spread the word about the book Debating the Holocaust, by Thomas Dalton, PhD. Around 2:30 a.m. he clicked send, firing off the e-mail with the enthusiastic recommendation, "You should read this book! It is rocking my world!" He tells the Times the e-mail was intended for "another group he belongs to, where members debate whether accounts of the Holocaust are exaggerated." But he sent it to the wrong address list, and it went to every parent and teacher on the P.S. 290 PTA list instead. Parents say they're shocked and outraged, and some have called the ADL. more ›

Nazi Hunter Poses As Nazi To Get Ex-Nazi's Confession

Nazi Hunter Poses As Nazi To Get Ex-Nazi's Confession

According to the Times, Mark Gould doesn't like to be called a "Nazi hunter," but we can't think of another way to describe the obsessive way he spent eight years trying to get a confession out of ex-Waffen SS officer Bernhard Frank. Yesterday at a news conference in New York, Gould announced a lawsuit against Frank, now 97, after allegedly recording the former officer and aide to Heinrich Himmler admitting to signing a document in 1941 that spurred an attack on the village of Korets, in Ukraine. And how did this American with "extended Jewish family" get that confession, you might ask? He posed as a neo-Nazi. more ›

NYC Students Raise Funds To Visit Holocaust Sites

The Daily News reports that, after studying about the Holocaust, nine black and Latino students at High School for Law Advocacy and Community Justice are raising money for a European tour of death camps and other WWII spots. One sophomore told the News she used to laugh at Hasidic Jews on the subway, but no more: "I learned about the Holocaust and I know what they went through... I never made fun of Jews again." Their teacher added, "Our students are inner-city minorities... For them to see the oppression of other groups, especially a white group, it is an eye-opener for them." They still need to raise $17,000 by March 15. more ›

Bibi Shows Holocaust Proof To A'jad

Bibi Shows Holocaust Proof To A'jad

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu produced evidence for the Holocaust on the floor of the UN General Assembly yesterday, in an attempt to put down once and for all the Iranian election-stealer's declaration that the whole thing is based on "a lie and a mythical claim." The Post's front page today shows Netanyahu holding the actual minutes from the German government meeting that planned out the "final solution." He also showed the Assembly plans from Auschwitz, and said of Ahmadinejad, "Have you no shame? Have you no decency?" more ›

Should Holocaust Memorial Park Commemorate Non-Jews?

A group of politicians and activists gathered at the city-owned Holocaust Memorial Park in Sheepshead Bay to protest the Parks Department's plans to make additions to the memorial to more prominently commemorate other groups killed under the Nazi regime on top of the Jewish victims currently being honored there now. more ›

Holocaust Victims' Settlement Lawyer Bill Saga, Part 2

For the past few years, lawyer and NYU professor Burt Neuborne has been battling to be paid for work on a $1.25 billion settlement from Swiss banks to Holocaust survivors.
