The jet stream has gone loopy. Instead of the mostly west-to-east pattern that it has been stuck in recently the jet is now flowing in a series of large loops that extend way north and way south. Today we are under a ridge of high pressure at the jet stream level and a high pressure system down here on the ground. Add those up and you get brilliantly clear skies and a near-normal high of 50 degrees.
Midweek Storm is Brewing in Midwest
Two Storms, One Rain Bucket
What a freakin' mess! A one-two punch of storms will bring heavy rain to the city through tomorrow and likely into Sunday. The rain will make it difficult to play a game tonight at Shea. Conditions are looking only slightly better for tomorrow night. Triple-header Sunday!
Hanna Almost Here
And you may ask yourself where is that terrible wind. And you may ask yourself how much rain will fall. And you may ask yourself when it will get here. As the day goes by Hanna will be in town. The storm made landfall late over North Carolina last night, is now centered over Chesapeake Bay, and is zipping up the coast. Rain ahead of the storm center extends into eastern Pennsylvania and southern New Jersey and should arrive in the city this afternoon.
Hanna, Ike and Josephine on the Scene
The weather forecast for today and tomorrow is relatively straightforward but the crystal ball gets all sorts of cloudy beginning Friday. A coastal low off of New England may trigger a few isolated showers this afternoon and evening. Otherwise expect a mix of sun and clouds with a high in the mid 80s. Clouds will give way to sun tomorrow and the thermometer will make a valiant effort to reach 90. Unseasonably warm weather will continue into Friday, when the high will again reach the upper 80s.
Our First Spring Storm?
Today's weather is a winner! Sunny and warm with a high in the mid-50s. Enjoy it if you can as tomorrow and Wednesday will feature varying degrees of wetness.
