A massive snowstorm shut down airports across Europe this past week and though many of them are back up and running London's Heathrow isn't quite on the horse yet. Officials don't expect it to be fully operational until tomorrow. Which means thousands of Brits are stranded in New York. So what are they doing while they wait? Shopping, from what the Post gathers (good for the economy!). But honestly, we would have expected more folks on Craigslist looking for some company while they waited... Our quick search turned up only one lonely traveller looking for some company (or rather, only one who put the storm in their in ad).

Heathrow Airport Selling Weird NYC-Themed Bagels
Hiya, Yank! Visiting Merry Old England and pining for some authentic New York grub, what? Well, you'll be chuffed to bits at Heathrow Airport, where they're flogging ace bagel sandwiches named after jolly New York neighborhoods! Take a gander: They've got all your favorites, from the East Village Veggie ("Hold the meat, not the taste. Delicious chargrilled vegetables on grilled cheese") to the Harlem Nights ("Hot 'n' Heavenly Bacon and Cream Cheese—makes for real soul food").
Food and the Friendly Skies
Gothamist recently flew from New York to Paris and back. In the post-Heathrow world of strict carry-on rules, we brought nothing more than a book into the cabin. Consequently, we were stuck eating Continental's dismal dinner, optimistically called 'lasagna bolognese.' It was among our worst meals in recent memory, and we didn't get past the first few bites. Even the brownie was bad.
City Reacts to London Airplane Bomb Plot
As delays snarled Laguardia, JFK, and Newark with news that British authorities had stopped a terrorist plot to blow up airliners flying the U.S., New York City's security level remained at "elevated" - which is where it's been since September 11, 2001. Governor Pataki increased state police, Port Authority police, and National Guard presence at the airports, and said, "I want to assure all New Yorkers that we have and will continue to provide a heightened level of security, and I urge all of you to be vigilant, but to go about your normal routines. I encourage all citizens to remain alert with regard to the threat of terrorism. The eyes and ears of the public are one of the most important resources we have to help law enforcement officials deter and prevent acts of terrorism." Mayor Bloomberg noted that since the threat was focused on airports, subway security wouldn't have to be raised. And did you know that Senator Schumer is stuck at Heathrow?
This Bus Ride May Be Recorded
a crime), but it can be upgraded for live video transmissions. Also, the Transit Authority hopes to use video footage to disprove accident claims. And we're sure there are a number of driver-bus rider altercations. The MTA hopes they will be able to roll out the program to all of its 4500+ buses, but we wonder if they'll put in bodega-style dummy cameras to deter crime.
Elsewhere in the Ist-a-verse
LAist has so much fun this week! They go to E3, where they overhear the timeless remark "Man, this is where nerdy girls get laid." Is that a promise? They also give us this week's best CDs and make us realize that LA is the best place to use Zillow.
