Gothamist Band of the Week: The Head Set
Gothamist Music Picks
With KEXP in town there's a lot more music than usual. Check out their in studio shows online while you're at work this week. Off the airwaves there's a lot to see, hear and enjoy as well. Tonight and tomorrow night, Angels and Airwaves and I Am The Avalanche play Bowery Ballroom. If you walk by the venue to see a cluster of pierced tweens waiting to get in, it may help to know that the former band is Tom from Blink 182. Goldfrapp is also in town, playing Irving Plaza tonight.

Cabaret License: This Week's Music Megalist (Late Edition)

Pictorial Review: Sarah Flynn Benefit @ Rothko 01.25.05
Last night Gothamist headed over to the Sarah Flynn Benefit @ Rothko for a good cause and good music. The show ran a bit late (Ted Leo had a short set that didn't start until 12:45) but who among us can't stay up past our bedtime on a school night? The below images are courtesy of Youngna Park (and there may be some more up later on, after the sleep wears off our eyes):
Vicious Benefit
Gothamist wanted to make you aware of a very important event next week. As per usual on a Tuesday night at Rothko jenyk/dot/com + Melody Nelson present VICIOUS. However next week, the 25th, the show will be a benefit for Sarah Flynn. From Sarah's employer, the President of SpinART Records:
Sell Outs
Time to start the new year off right, by seeing live music and not being left out on the cold cold sidewalk listening to your favorite songs echoing down the snow-filled street. This month there are a lot of hyped up bands coming our way. We are mainly talking about the Arcade Fire, if you don't have tickets we don't know what to tell you. If you're good at haikus you could try this contest. We'll also be having some ticket give-a-ways for some shows this month, and maybe MAYBE there will be an Arcade Fire one. But in the meantime, here are some tickets on sale that you can still buy:
CMJ Review: Night One starring the Arcade Fire
Last night Gothamist headed over to Irving to catch the Head Set...but missed them. After watching a few songs by Gang Gang Dance (a band which Gothamist did not care for, at all, in fact it motivated us to depart Irving all together) we headed to Mercury Lounge to see if we could catch the much buzzed about band the Arcade Fire.
The Head Set...
Trying to describe the Head Set we wanted to avoid the catch phrases that litter today's reviews. Post-punk, "the new Strokes"...you get the idea. It's hard though, with this band, because they are those things, in the best way imaginable. We don't usually do this, but listen to them right now, then come back and read the rest.
