As if the story of the man who drove his father's Nissan Quest minivan into the Harlem Meer in Central Park couldn't get weirder, what with Antony Romo's claims that his dad loved the car more than his own son, it does! The Post reports, "A police source confirmed that on July 14, Anthony [Romo] had gone to retrieve his cat from mom Donna Gianell, 55, at his parents' Upper West Side apartment, but for some reason she refused to hand over the kitty and stabbed him."

Really Mad At Dad: Man Drives His Father's Van Into Central Park Lake
Yesterday, just after noon, a man drove a van into the lake at the Harlem Meer, located in the northeastern corner of Central Park. As a commenter on Harlem Bespoke pointed out, "Quite honestly - a person has to try pretty hard to do that!" And it turned out the driver, 30-year-old Anthony Romo, was aiming for the lake. A witness tells the Post that Romo said, "F*ck that car! It’s my father’s car. He loves that car more than he loves me." Another witness told the Daily News, "Then he sat down. He didn't try to resist or run. ... It was insane."
Falcons Galore at Central Park Today
There are many fun events today, like Ecofest at Lincoln Center and Atlantic Antic in Brooklyn, but for those interested in our fine feathered friends, we recommend you head to Central Park to check out the Parks Department's Falconry Extravaganza with the Urban Park Rangers.
Central Park "Before" Signs
The Central Park Conservancy, the private, non-profit organization that manages the park, let us know about some new signs that will be appearing soon. It's a call to action for park goers to help out: Fifteen signs are being installed with "before" photographs showing how far the park has come since the 1970s and 1980s, with the words "What would we do without your donations?" on them. This is a rendering of the sign that'll go in front of the Belvedere Castle, which certainly doesn't look like that anymore.
Upcoming
DOG PARADE: This Saturday head over to Tompkins Square Park, even if you are sans dog, and watch the Dog Run Halloween Party. Dressing up your pup in garb could win you an iPod nano.
Memorial Day Thoughts From Gothamist
The weather is a mixed bag this weekend as we stick around the city this weekend (we're glad we won't need to follow Gawker's rules of conduct for getting to the Hamptons - we've seen people getting on and off the Jitney and it looks worse than the school bus we had to take). We've been trying to think of what we want to do, and have come up with some ideas that we'd like to share:
Central Park Gets Benched
Another fundraising idea from the Central Park Conservancy: Celebrities, politicians, and designers design Central Park benches. The benches can be found around the park at the Dairy, Tavern on the Green, the Boathouse and the Dana Center at Harlem Meer. Then, in November, they will be on display in different Chelsea galleries, before being auctioned off on November 20.
