The former Grayz restaurant space in midtown has been tweaked into the ambitious Atria, serving "Modern European" cuisine by Bavarian chef Martin Brock (Café Gray, Grayz). Named for the eight story atrium vaulted above the main dining room, the restaurant underwent a bit of a facelift since severing its association with celebrated chef Gray Kunz.

Grayz: Chef Gray Kunz's newest spot is located in the lower levels of a townhouse where the Rockefellers once resided. The newest resident is no less classy -- this high-end cocktail oasis/private event space serves up a menu featuring upscale nibbles like salt stone grilled prawns w/ kimchi, pear, and ginger, and minced veal weisswurst with handmade pretzels. 13-15 West 54th Street between Fifth and Sixth Avenues, 212.262.4600.

">Bruni goes to Gramercy Tavern, awards the restaurant--now helmed by chef Michael Anthony--three stars. It was last reviewed by William Grimes, when Tom Colicchio was cooking and when it also received three stars. Bruni says the restaurant delivers what diners want: “a kind of unstrained graciousness and unlabored sophistication.” Nearly everything he tasted was “exquisitely cooked,” and while the desserts aren’t the best ever, “there are some fine choices.”
James Beard Award Nominees Announced
All the foodies are in a tizzy today as the coveted James Beard Award nominees were announced last night. The actual awards ceremony and reception will be held on May 8, at an event celebrating "the culinary legacy of New Orleans." Admission is $375 ($325 for James Beard Foundation members/$120 for students - find your old ID cards fast!). A portion of the admission price will be donated to a charitable fund established to support the rebuilding of New Orleans’ restaurant community.
There's Something Rotten at Time Warner
Don't blame yourself. Gothamist was fooled too. We thought the fancy-schmancy food court at the Time Warner Center was going to be the second coming. But with Thomas Keller's Per Se going up in smoke in its first week, Frank Bruni's one-star spanking of Jean-Georges Vongerichten's V Steakhouse, and openings for Charlie Trotter and Gray Kunz still months away at best, things are looking glum on the upper floors of the Columbus Circle über-mall.
