After successfully fending off a heavy rape allegation, life is back to normal for Good Day New York co-host Greg Kelly, son of NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly. Should Greg Kelly's Rape Accuser Be Prosecuted?

Should Greg Kelly's Rape Accuser Be Prosecuted?

Should the woman who filed a criminal complaint accusing Greg Kelly of rape herself be charged, now that the DA has declined to prosecute the Good Day New York host? The cop-friendly NY Post certainly thinks so. In addition to splashing her photo across today's front page (headline: "SHADY LADY"), the Post's Andrea Peyser is urging the DA to press charges against the woman, whom the tabloid has identified as Maria Di Toro. Quoth the Peyser: more ›

NYPD Sources: Ray Kelly's Son Had Consensual Sex, Not Rape

NYPD Sources: Ray Kelly's Son Had Consensual Sex, Not Rape

At this stage it's impossible to predict the outcome of the Manhattan DA's investigation into Greg Kelly's alleged rape of an unidentified woman last October, but while we wait we may as well pass the time speculating on the identify of the woman's boyfriend. Kelly, the co-host of "Good Day New York" and son of NYPD commissioner Ray Kelly, has not been charged, and because of the high profile nature of the case, the DA's office is said to be proceeding with extreme caution (the bitter backwash of the Dominique Strauss-Kahn investigation is probably another factor). But one unidentified source tells the Daily News the investigation could be wrapped up soon—and the tabloid has all but identified the boyfriend of Kelly's accuser. more ›

Greg Kelly's Texts With Rape Accuser Were "Two Days Of Foreplay"

Greg Kelly's Texts With Rape Accuser Were "Two Days Of Foreplay"

This week, Greg Kelly, son of NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly and co-host of "Good Day New York," was accused of—but not charged with—raping an unidentified young woman in her Manhattan office. Sources have told the dailies that Kelly had text messages from the woman after the encounter of a "flirtatious" nature, including lines like "‘It was good time? Was it as nice for you? Do you want to do it again?’” Now a Post source is being even more clear-cut about those texts, which occurred both before and after the alleged rape: “The texts were explicit. They were sexual. They talked about what they wanted to do to each other. It was two days of foreplay.” more ›

Greg Kelly's Rape Accuser Has Family Ties To NYPD, Too

This week, Greg Kelly, son of NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly and co-host of "Good Day New York," was accused of—but not charged with—raping an unidentified young woman in her Manhattan office. It's now been revealed that the rape accuser, a 30-year-old law firm employee who the Post describes as "an aspiring model and actress," also has family ties to the NYPD—the Post reports that her brother is a crime-scene investigator for the NYPD who previously worked in the Internal Affairs Bureau. And it seems she was inspired to report the alleged rape because of Kelly's famous dad encouraging New Yorkers to come forward to report all crimes: “Her boyfriend was telling her, ‘You see, even his father is telling people to report crime,’” a source told DNAinfo. more ›

Sources: Greg Kelly Has "Flirtatious" Texts To Prove Sex Was Consensual

After being accused of—but not charged with—raping an unidentified young woman in her Manhattan office, Greg Kelly—son of NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly and co-host of a"Good Day New York"—has been laying low. Kelly has denied the allegation through his attorney and not spoken publicly, but behind the scenes, sources have been talking to the press. Yesterday it was revealed that the woman had an abortion after her boozy encounter with Kelly, and now some are saying the Manhattan DA has doubts about the case. Of course, it goes without saying that all these unidentified sources talking to the tabloids may be people inside the NYPD with an interest in protecting the Commissioner's son. Update, 1/28: Now it's reported that the accuser's brother works for the NYPD. more ›

UPDATE: Greg Kelly, Fox 5 Host & NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly's Son, Accused Of Rape

Greg Kelly, the co-anchor of Fox 5’s "Good Day New York" and son of NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly, has been accused of rape by a woman he met on the street downtown one night last October. The unidentified woman, who is in her late 20s or early 30s, says that Kelly took her to a bar at the South Street Seaport. After several drinks, she says they went to the Lower Manhattan law firm where she works, and there Kelly proceeded to rape her. Kelly has not been charged. [Update, January 27:] Sources claim Kelly has "flirtatious" texts from the accuser while others question the accuser's credibility. [Update, 1/28:] Now it's reported that the accuser's brother works for the NYPD. more ›

Not Quite Soy Jizzum But Still A Face Palm

Not Quite Soy Jizzum But Still A Face Palm

Oh, Good Day New York. If it's not wondering about soy byproducts, it's something else to cause awkward moments. This morning, co-anchor Greg Kelly (son of the Police Commissioner) tried to chat with Colin Quinn about the old days of the MTV game show, Remote Control. Unfortunately, Kelly went too far and asked how Ken Ober is doing—not realizing, perhaps, that Ober died last year. Gawker has video of Quinn informing Kelly that Ken Ober is dead. Further, Quinn says Ober died "like three months ago" but Ober died last November. Anyway, Kelly actually did a face palm. (Also, but not as sad, no one remembers Kari Wuhrer's last name.) more ›

Jodi Applegate's Tuna Surprise Recipe

Jodi Applegate and Ron Corning, co-hosts of Fox's Good Day New York, both claim to be serious foodies, and it was a toss-up as to which one would have the chance to share their favorite recipe with Gothamist. But New York Magazine went through Ron Corning's daily diet last month, and Jodi Applegate wanted to unveil her favorite recipe for Tuna Surprise here today. more ›

Televison Watching: Vultures, Dr. Max, Giants, & Wrong

It seems when tragedy writ large strikes, local news crews are dispatched to the scene no matter where it is. This week’s bridge collapse in Minnesota was no different with, as of last night, WCBS, WNYW, and WABC shipping reporters off to cover the death and destruction live. It seems more like vultures flocking to the carcass instead of legitimate coverage. more ›

Video of the Day: How to a Steal a Bike on Good Day New York

Two weeks ago, we posted about a video showing how to steal a bike. Good Day New York wanted to get in on the action, so they had some people demonstrate it on the show this morning - only for it to go totally haywire in a brilliant, planned fake blood way and spook reporter Jodi Applegate away from stories on the Internet for good. Gawker has a description of the segment, which has made it's way to YouTube. more ›

Breakfast with Jim Ryan!

Breakfast with Jim Ryan!

CBS New York morning anchor Jim Ryan is doing the show from various locations for a Breakfast With Jim Ryan segment each day. Now, if you've been watching the local news for a while, you'll know Jim from hosting Good Day New York on Channel 5. We always thought that Jim was at his best when he was needling weather man Dave Price, who moved over to CBS a while ago, so we were thrilled that they could be reunited. Today he was at Mike's Deli (you can see the segment here) on Arthur Avenue in the Bronx, and tomorrow he'll be at Natives in Queens. CBS 2 is taking suggestions on fun places for him to hang out (email CBS2Crew@cbs.com), and ours would be the Fairway Cafe (interaction with insane Upper West Side shoppers) or a Chinatown dim sum emporium like Triple 8 Palace (eat pigs knuckles at 5:30AM!). Do you have picks for breakfast fun? more ›

Today Goes to Shanghai

Today Goes to Shanghai

Gothamist was very excited to see that Matt Lauer was in Shanghai, for his November sweeps month get-me-away-from-Katie working vacation/ biological clock experiment, Where in the World is Matt Lauer? To make scary, Communist China accessible to the West, Matt explained that Shanghai is growing so fast, and referred to a graphic showing that there are twice as many skyscrapers in Shanghai than New York, 4000 to NYC's 2000, even though Shanghai is a relatively young city (around the same "age" as Los Angeles). Yay, morning world urban history! Then we turned to Fox 5 to see where Mike Woods might be, given his Where in the World is... Mike Woods? spoof on Good Day New York. But, alas, Mike was not in Chinatown or Flushing, but in Chelsea, making chocolate with Francois Payard. And, augh! The Today show has set Maria Meneunos on the people of Shanghai, doing a lifestyle piece - we're sorry, Shanghai. more ›
