Earlier this year, Demi Moore was slated to play feminist icon Gloria Steinem in a film about Deep Throat porn star Linda Lovelace. But since Moore is "suffering from exhaustion" (or from doing whip-its or smoking an incense-like product), she has dropped out of the film. Now the filmmakers say they have found a new Gloria, and it's our one and only Carrie Bradshaw.

Demi Moore To Play Feminist Gloria Steinem In Porn Star Biopic
Freed from the clutches of Kutcher, Demi Moore is back to work playing feminist icon Gloria Steinem in an upcoming movie about Bronx-born Linda Boreman, who—under the name Linda Lovelace—is most noted for her appearance in the notorious 1972 adult film Deep Throat. At the time, the film grossed millions, launched Lovelace into spotlight, and sparked a firestorm of debate on cultural permissiveness. Not since her starring role as a single mom stripper with knack for political bribery has Moore grasped a role with such gravitas.
15,000 Signatures Against Cathie Black Can't Be Wrong
A group of angry parents, teachers and concerned citizens plan to file a 15,000-signature petition to state Education Commissioner David Steiner today urging him to deny a waiver that would allow Mayor Bloomberg's appointee for new Schools Chancellor, Cathie Black, to assume the position. Steiner has set up an advisory panel (which has been met with its own share of criticism) to review the waiver, but many say Black is completely unqualified to run the nation's largest school system. One parent told NBC 4, "there's really a phenomenon out there of general outrage at this nomination." But do you know who's not outraged (at the nomination)? Gloria Steinem.
Hillary: "I Don't Think Either of Us Want to Inject Race or Gender in this Campaign."
That's what Senator Hillary Clinton told Tim Russert on Meet the Press yesterday, but no matter what anyone says, race and gender are obviously factors in the hotly contested Democratic primary race.
The Week in Comedy Includes Feminist Agendas and Giant Hybrid Animals. Why Wouldn't It?
Chengwin is exactly what it sounds like, a creature that is half penguin, half chicken. Less obvious are the motives behind Chengwin’s public displays of theatrics when he takes to the streets of New York City to create scenes. He has been known to race his arch-nemesis Chunk (half chicken- half skunk) in a quarter mile marathon and has tried to break up Chunk’s public wedding ceremony, all while thousands of spectators participate in the pageantry. The video release and screening party for the latest Chengwin video, Homecoming 2004: The Chengwins vs. The Chunks is tomorrow night and will be a spectacle in itself, with an appearance by Chabio (yes, half-chicken, half…Fabio), 2 DJ’s, drinks and book-signings. The party starts at 8pm Thursday, November 10th at North Six in Williamsburg, admission is $5 which goes to help fund the next Chengwin event which will occur on a snowy winter day in 2006.
Talk Backs At Good Body Start Tonight
Our friends at Broadway's The Good Body, the Eve Ensler one-woman show, have alerted us to an enticing series of talkbacks that started Wednesday night. An interesting and eclectic mix of talking heads, feminists, movie stars, and so forth have been booked to give their takes on the show. Gothamist really dug this show and wants to go back and hear Gloria Steinem's take on this piece on feminine body image and the challenge of confronting society's expectations, as well as our own. We're also curious to hear Isabella Rossellini's take on the show and the ideas it explores, since she is one of the 'characters' portrayed by Ensler in the show, and in the show has a lot to say on the subject at hand. Here's the list of talkbacks booked so far: (with more dates to be added):
