According to a new report, graffiti is up 305% in the Ridgewood, Glendale and Middle Village neighborhoods in Queens. (If it were street art this may seal the deal on Ridgewood's rise to the next "it" neighborhood! Baby steps.) According to the Daily News, spray paint complaints were down in the five boroughs last year, but police in the 104th Precinct received 800 graffiti complaints, which is up 305% from the 262 of 2009. However, this may have to do with the fact that last year the annual budget for a graffiti removal program in Ridgewood was drastically reduced.
Graffiti Complaints Are Down... Unless You Live In Queens
Glendale and Washington Heights Poopiest Neighborhoods
According to the Post, Al Qaeda operatives tried to use dogs as their own kamikaze weapons against America in 2008, by surgically implanting explosives and detonators inside two stray dogs. We should be grateful for two things: that they sucked so much at stitching, the plan was nixed; and that the only thing that is explosive about our dogs is their poop. So in light of this dastardly doggy terror plot that-almost-was, let's appreciate the relative ease of dealing with our occasionally poop-filled sidewalks.
Giants Bag Pack 23-20, Pack Bags for Super Bowl
The Giants won the NFC Championship in overtime, beating the Green Bay Packers 23-20 in overtime and overcome the frigid, below-zero conditions. They are now headed to the Super Bowl where they will meet the New England Patriots, who beat the San Diego Chargers 21-12.
Say Prosit at Manor Oktoberfest
Time was that Glendale and the surrounding neighborhoods were the place to go if you wanted to have a few beers and some old-fashioned German food. Now that the venerable Niederstein's has closed, and been turned into an Arby's no less, it would seem that the only place in the nabe to have some brats or a meaty hunk of kassler rippchen is the antediluvian Zum Stammtisch.

My Favorite in...
Neo-eighties melancholic synth-pop outfit My Favorite filtered through the suburbs of Long Island, converging on their inevitable epicenter with distilled inclinations toward the stylish new wave music of their youth. My Favorite are a quintet comprised of Michael Grace, Jr. (vocals, guitar, piano, synthesizers), Andrea Vaughn (vocals, melodica, synthesizers), Darren Amadio (guitar), Gil Abad (bass) and the so-called Todbot (drums). Making the move to more-than-just-friends in 1999, they settled on a sneaky name for the band that effectively declares the band Winner every time they are announced on stage or on air. Characterizations of the band elicit references to the Cure, Echo and the Bunnymen, Joy Division and Saint Etienne, an infinite stream of comparisons to the Smiths and even more to New Order. My Favorite figurehead, songwriter and historian (See? We fell for it, too.) Michael Grace, Jr. crafts responses to our inquiry.
