Last Night's Action: Give The Devils Their Due
Elsewhere in the ist-a-verse
The -ists this week had politics on the brain. And what goes better with politics? Partying-- that's two great tastes in one. Oh, and Kevin Federline...can't forget about Kevin Federline. That's three great tastes in one.
It's Do or Die for Jets, Again
The Jets (11-6) visit top-seeded Pittsburgh (15-1) (Saturday, 4:30 p.m., TV: CBS, Radio: 1050 ESPN) in an AFC Divisional Playoff game. For those who haven't been paying attention, Pittsburgh has a rookie quarterback named Ben Roethlisberger (pictured impersonating Stevie Wonder - OK, a joke) who has yet to lose in his first 13 starts,an NFL record. Yes, last year the Giants could have easily drafted him rather than giving up an arm and a leg to trade for the top pic, but hindsight is 20/20 and the jury is still out on Eli. But curmudgeony critics point out he hasn't had any truly "big games" and "is due to lose".
Steelers Prove Better Than Jets (For Now)
The usually well-behaved Jets were penalized 12 times for 84 yards - astoundingly, all in the first half. Jets QB Chad Pennington (17-for-31, 189 yards, 0 TD, 3 INT) knew his performance was subpar, and said he blames only himself.
Big Weekend for Zeile
Todd Zeile certainly had a memorable weekend. In game 1 of Sunday's doubleheader, he picked up the 2,000th hit of his career. The hit came in the 9th inning and off of Pirates closer Jose Mesa. In Saturday's game, Zeile played catcher for the first time since 1990. It's possible that Zeile is a bit rusty, as his batterymate, Tom Glavine, pitched poorly, giving up six runs in less than six innings of work.
