Calling all adult contemporary fans: Coldplay will be performing at the American Museum of Natural History's annual Museum Gala on November 10th, and if you have $1,500 to $100,000 you can attend. The museum says "more than 600 guests are expected to attend this year’s dazzling ball," which is the highlight of their fall season.

Lady Gaga's Met Meltdown
The Met's Costume Institute Gala on Monday night boasted a star-studded red carpet with more unique designs draped over celebs than at your typical awards show. Fittingly, Lady Gaga was set to perform for the decked out A-list crowd, but oddly, she was nowhere to be seen on the red carpet. Which is sort of... unlike her?
Met's Costume Institute Gala Fetes The American Woman
The Met Costume Institute Gala was held last night, and even for those who don't like the standard red carpet circus, this one is usually pretty interesting. For one, the event was hosted by Vogue editrix Anna Wintour and the most powerful woman in the world, Oprah Winfrey. Another female powerhouse, Lady Gaga, performed for the crowd inside... but sadly didn't walk the red carpet, letting Katy Perry don the most unusual outfit for the press outside (it lit up with LED lights). As for what happens behind the Met's closed doors during the annual event, Wintour says, "Oh, we're very, very well behaved." However, Oprah walked in proclaiming she was ready for a few shots of tequila!
Brooklyn Museum Unveils Andy Warhol Piñata
If you've ever wanted to punch Andy Warhol in the face, now is your time to shine! The Brooklyn Museum has created this huge piñata of the pop artist for their Gala on April 22nd. The 20-footer will be smashed open by guests that evening, but until then the museum is keeping mum about what's inside, only revealing that it's edible (Campbell's soup cans?). In June they'll be bringing the artist's last decade to their walls, in a less aggressive show of affection.
Muppets Mingle at Sesame Gala
The gang from Sesame Street was out walking the red carpet last night for their 7th Annual Gala benefiting the Sesame Workshop. Held far away from their Astoria home at Cipriani on 42nd Street, the muppets (friends of the First Lady) greeted some bold-face names, and Sheryl Crow even performed a duet with Elmo. Here are some of your Sesame faves (glad to see Grover made it out!) with the likes of Mayor Bloomberg, Brian Williams and Al Roker. Why do you think muppets hate Al Roker so much; maybe he didn't deliver enough "sunny days" to the street?
Michelle Obama Speaks Out for the Arts
Yesterday Michelle Obama was in town for a second time since becoming the First Lady, this visit emphasizing the important role of the arts. She helped reopen the newly renovated American wing of the Metropolitan Museum of Art (where she commented on how she spent her first date with the President at a museum), and later on attended the American Ballet Theatre's Spring Gala. With our cultural institutions suffering during the current financial climate, it's nice to hear the First Lady remind people, "Nearly 6 million people make their living in the nonprofit arts industry. Arts and cultural activities contribute more than $160 billion to our economy every year."
Met's Costume Institute Ball Celebrates Supermodels
Last night the rich, famous, recession-proof and beautiful came together under the roof of the Met for the annual Costume Institute Ball, in celebration of the museum's new exhibit called Model as Muse. While last year the theme was superhero, this year's was supermodel, and Style has a thorough rundown of the glamorous night (that the NY Post thought was more Zoolander-inspired). The evening wasn't without some drama, of course, the NY Times reports that designer Azzedine Alaïa wasn't included in the exhibit, so some of his muses, like Naomi Campbell, refused to attend. There were still plenty of best and worst dressed to gawk at, however.
Last Night's BOMB Gala
Last night BOMB, an art and culture magazine started in NYC in 1981, held their 28th Anniversary and Gala Auction at the National Arts Club. The music was curated by honorees of the evening Laurie Anderson and Lou Reed, the potatoes were stuffed with caviar, and the silent bidding on artwork started in the four figure range. What recession, indeed! Check out all of the pieces that were on the block here.
Food Bank for NYC’s 5th Annual Can-Do Awards Dinner
The Food Bank for New York City held their 5th Annual Can-Do Awards Dinner and fund raiser last night at Chelsea Piers. For the past 25 years, the Food Bank has worked to end hunger by giving low-income New Yorkers access to affordable and healthy food. Last night's dinner was hosted by classy actor Stanley Tucci and attended by celebrities like Michael Stipe, Gwyneth Paltrow and Mike D; musical performances were by Angela McCluskey, Jill Hennessey, Joseph Arthur and Mike Mills.
Marty Markowitz's Wife Hogs Swag at Murakami Gala
Atlantic Yards developer Bruce Ratner wasn’t the only one causing controversy at the Brooklyn Museum’s gala celebration for the Takashi Murakami retrospective last Thursday night. Some attendees say Jamie Snow, wife of Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz, was rather boorish in her accumulation of freebies at the event.
