FTC Prepares To Probe Google On Anti-Trust Issues

For awhile now everyone's favorite search giant, Google, has been getting flack from competitors for, they say, unfairly putting its own products ahead in its supposedly neutral search results. And now the Federal Trade Commission appears to be listening. Upstate Teen Crashes After Drinking Four Loko

Giving fuel to Chuck Schumer's flame, a 17-year-old from Marion, NY crashed his car after drinking two cans of Four Loko. Timothy Taylor, who is not yet a licensed driver, had been "driving around the yard" of a residence in Arcadia around 7 a.m. on November 19th, lost control of the vehicle and crashed through a fence. He told officers he drank two cans of the controversial beverage a few hours before, and he now faces DWI charges. The man who sold him the Four Loko was charged with first-degree unlawfully dealing with a child. The Federal Trade Commission has accused pomegranate juice manufacturers POM Wonderful of false advertising. The company's owners, billionaire philanthropists Lynda and Stewart Resnick of Los Angeles, who also own Fiji water and Teleflora, are big believers in the power of pomegranate juice, and have spent over $30 million funding studies to examine its healthy properties. Finally: FTC Sues Robocalling Telemarketers

After complaints from unsuspecting cellphone users and the very vocal Senator Chuck Schumer, the Federal Trade Commission is suing the telemarketing companies responsible for billions of robocalls selling auto warranty extensions. The Wall Street Journal reports, "In two related complaints filed in federal court on Thursday, the FTC said it was taking action against the promoter of the phony extended auto warranties, as well as the telemarketing company that it hired to carry out its allegedly illegal campaign. The FTC filed complaints against four companies and a handful of individuals related to their operations." FTC Chairman Jon Leibowitz said, "This is one of the most aggressive telemarketing schemes the FTC has ever encountered. not sure which is worse, the abusive telemarketing tactics of these companies, or the way they try to deceive people once they get them on the phone. Either way, we intend to shut them down.” The FTC also noted that even 911 dispatchers get these calls! more ›
