We knew the Emmys would be terrible (even Pat Kiernan says, "They weren’t funny—Jane Lynch wasn’t funny. And the voiceover guy was really not funny.") yet we still watched. Obviously, we suffering from some sort of Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Stockholm Syndrome, but at least there were these moments:
The Few Good Things About The 2011 Emmys
Hard Decisions: Don Draper Vs. Coach Taylor
This weekend the Television Critics Association Awards went down, essentially pitting Mad Men up against Friday Night Lights for the Emmys later this year. On Saturday, Jon Hamm took home Individual Achievement in Drama and Mad Men took Outstanding Achievement in Drama, while Program of the Year went to to amazing and amazingly underrated Friday Night Lights (catch up online!).
HS Football Player Files Harassment Report Against Coach
If we've learned anything from Friday Night Lights, it's that when it comes to High School football, there is no such thing as overdoing it. It is a serious, brutal game that separates the tweens from the teens. Coaches work players hard, and if someone is lucky, maybe they'll get a football scholarship and escape their small town misery. Best of the ist-a-verse
Spring is when we get busy here in the Ist-A-Verse. Very busy. But, after staying bundled-up indoors all winter, it's nice for us to be out, about, and collecting things to write about for you. Here's a glimpse at what's been keeping your favorite citybloggers busily away from home and out of bed.
Elsewhere in the ist-a-verse
Austinist gets arty with an interactive guide to SXSW, loved some local art galleries and a new art exhibit and lamented the possible loss of "Friday Night Lights" production to New Mexico.
