Anyone yet unfamiliar with Portland's phenomenal guitar rock quartet The Joggers (myspace, website) can glean a lot about their music from this photo of their drummer, Jake Morris. For one thing, he's pouring sweat for a reason; the band's propulsive, serpentine arrangements demand a high-degree of octane from the guy behind the kit. And as the microphone indicates, everyone in the band pitches in on vocals to fill out lead singer Ben Whitesides's theatrically ambitious...

THEATER: Self-proclaimed “super-ultra-nerd” Brooke O’Harra has spawned Panic at P.S. 122. Written by Rafael Spregelburd, her production invokes the mood of low-budget horror movies to tell the tale of a mother and her two children as they attempt to recover the key to their safety deposit box - from the hands of the dead! Panic is part of the Buenos Aires in Translation (BAiT) festival, featuring the U.S. premieres of four playwrights from Argentina’s capital, which has become the theatrical “epicenter of Latin America”. The three other plays are also running through Sunday. - John Del Signore

The week is short and there really isn't a huge amount going on in the venues until the weekend. Plus, it's going to be about 1000 degrees, so packing in to a small sweaty venue isn't highest on our list of priorities. Here's what we do suggest, and as usual - feel free to list some shows in the comments.

One of our favorite stations to listen to all day is KEXP, run out of Seattle, and through the magic of online streaming - heard worldwide. This week they're in New York broadcasting (as they are twice a year), putting on some shows and having many in-studio guests. They're in Philip Glass' old studio which is now Gigantic Music, where their musical guests include:

KEXP's New York studio will be at the Museum of Television & Radio, located at 25 W. 52nd St. So plan your lunch hours accordingly so you can catch some of these shows, which are all held late morning and mid day.

Time to start the new year off right, by seeing live music and not being left out on the cold cold sidewalk listening to your favorite songs echoing down the snow-filled street. This month there are a lot of hyped up bands coming our way. We are mainly talking about the Arcade Fire, if you don't have tickets we don't know what to tell you. If you're good at haikus you could try this contest. We'll also be having some ticket give-a-ways for some shows this month, and maybe MAYBE there will be an Arcade Fire one. But in the meantime, here are some tickets on sale that you can still buy:

CMJ is here. For New Yorkers, you've probably already seen many of these bands. Everybody plays here. But the number of shows and the number of people crammed into the clubs for these shows is greater than normal. Be careful out there.

Gothamist woke up early Tuesday morning. Very early. To meet with the pinnacle of early morning radio, John Richards (aka � John in the Morning). He is used to waking up early, we are not. Sitting in the makeshift studio on the 5th floor of the Museum of Television & Radio on 52nd Street (where John is broadcasting from all week), we asked if he is as chipper in the AM hours as he seems on-air or if he really is a bear. He replied "is that code for 'asshole'?" then admitted he's never really gotten used to the early-morning routine.
