We just stumbled across this footage of a man baiting and trapping pigeons on Wall Street last week... you know, during our afternoon search for fresh pigeon videos. The uploader, who did an amazing job soundtracking the video with "Free Bird," writes: "The Crocodile Hunter has got nothing on The Pigeon Trapper, as he does a little food shopping on Wall Street in Lower Manhattan." Insert obligatory phoenix metaphor here: Brooklyn’s Freebird, the used book and corn dogs mecca that closed earlier this year, is set to re-emerge a little later this week from The Embers of Gentrification. While the NY Magazine article linked in that last sentence is about the real estate debacle of Red Hook, the shuttered Freebird, which is technically in Cobble Hill, is sometimes considered (with restaurants like Alma) to be an extension of that troubled... more ›

With Trey Anastasio getting in so much trouble lately (see: drug possesion - Hydrocodone, Percocet, Xanax, Heroin), it's nice to see he's not shying away from public appearances outside of the courtroom. Tomorrow night he'll be talking at the 92nd St Y (and maybe playing a few tunes?). Anastasio's most recent release, Bar 17, is a bit of a departure from his last (Shine), with more epic compositions (closer to some of the Phish classics) and 40 musicians participating (including Mike Gordon and Jon Fishman). more ›
