Yesterday—the Origin of Species reports in a blog post titled "Take These Broken Wings"—an adult male Osprey was found injured in Queens. The bird was in a parking lot near Willets Point, where he was suffering a fracture to his right wing. He was on a way to a vet soon after to get x-rays on the wing, which may not be repairable, and there will be more updates to come.

Subway Cat Georgia Is On The Mend
Georgia, the runaway subway cat rescued by a Con Ed meter reader and two determined MTA track workers, is resting up not just from her 25 days in the subway tunnels, but from surgery yesterday to repair a fractured leg. The doctors at Fifth Avenue Veterinary Specialists waited until yesterday to perform the surgery because Georgia was dehydrated at the time of her rescue and they wanted her stabilized before they performed the procedure.
Adding Injury to Insult
Most of the injuries occurred to people's legs and several fans were taken to Hackensack Medical Center for treatment, although the hospital wouldn't disclose the extent of anyone's wounds. According to NJ.com, however, two people suffered scrapes and bruises, one person fractured a bone, and two other people had more extensive and serious injuries. WNBC has video.
