Over 200 firefighters responded to a four-alarm fire that broke out in a multi-family home in the Van Nest section of the Bronx yesterday. Eighteen firefighters were injured, including two who were inside the building when it partially collapsed. One resident said, "The fire was so huge. It was spreading. I was crying, screaming."

A four-alarm fire gutted a vacant building at Washington Avenue and St. Johns Place in Prospect Heights this morning before being brought under control. The fire started around 2 a.m. inside 816 Washington Avenue and quickly spread out, injuring several firefighters in the process.

Around 4:30 a.m., huge fire started in a store at East 204th Street near Bainbridge Avenue in the Bronx—and it spread to neighboring stores. According to WABC 7, "Heavy flames shot through the roof of several of the businesses. The Foodtown supermarket, American Diner, and Bainbridge Dental Associates were all damaged by the flames." And WCBS 2 reports that there were no injuries but "The early morning wind may have complicated rescue efforts against the blaze." In October, a five-alarm fire damaged businesses on Bainbridge Avenue near East 204th Street for the 2nd time this year.
Former Knick Dean Meminger Remains In Burn Unit
Dean Meminger, the former Knicks great nicknamed "The Dream," is in a burn unit at Jacobi Hospital after suffering injuries from a four-alarm fire in the Bronx. The Fire Department is continuing to investigate the cause of the blaze, after reports that crack pipes were found in a building where the fire was started—and some of the crack pipes may have been in Meminger's rented room.

As dozens of people remain homeless after a Sunday four-alarm fire destroyed homes in the Claremont section of the Bronx, now fire officials suspect the fire began from a crack pipe—and many crack pipes were found in a room of an SRO rented by former Knicks great Dean "The Dream" Meminger. Meminger, 63, suffered smoke inhalation and is in critical condition at a burn unit in Jacobi Hospital.

A fire broke out in a Bronx home last night around 9:20 p.m. and quickly spread to neighboring homes, becoming a four-alarm blaze. Ultimately, it took over 200 firefighters and three hours to put out the fire on Findlay Avenue in the Claremont section. Now 45 people (and one cat) are left homeless.
Four-Alarm Fire In Bay Ridge Apartment Building
A four-alarm fire at an apartment building on Third Avenue near 68th Street in Brooklyn's Bay Ridge section has left dozens of families homeless. The fire started before midnight in the first floor deli; WABC 7 reports, "Flames spread through all four floors, finally shooting through the roof in an inferno that lit up the night sky. Officials say dozens of residents were forced to flee, many with young children." And according to WCBS 2, "Fire officials say the fire ripped through all 15 apartment, causing significant damage... Deputy Fire Chief James Leonard says the heat and humidity, and a costly delayed call to 911, made for a difficult night fighting the flames." The Red Cross is assisting families with shelter. Additionally, a number of firefighters were injured and the FDNY will be investigating the blaze.
Four-Alarm Fire In Chinatown Building
Last night, firefighters spent hours fighting a four-alarm fire that broke out at East Broadway and Pike Street in Chinatown. The fire occurred in the 6-story building that houses the Hong Kong supermarket on the ground floor; it broke out around 9:15 p.m. and the fire spread into the apartments above. Fire officials say that no residents, who were evacuated, were injured. However, four firefighters were taken to the hospital for treatment while three refused treatments. 4- and 5-Alarm Fires in Brooklyn, Bronx Buildings
Yesterday morning, firefighters worked to fight two intense fires. One was in the Parkville section of Brooklyn, where a four-alarm fire injured two people. Around 170 firefighters put the fire out; the FDNY they were able to contain the fire and keep it from spreading to more buildings. And in the Williamsbridge section of the Bronx, a five-alarm fire spread to two structures. About 20 firefighters were injured; a dog reportedly died and residents were displaced. A resident told NY1 his mother was at the inauguration in DC, "I called her, and she said she was at the inauguration. And she sounded so happy, I couldn't say it. I couldn't say it to her over the phone. I was just like, 'come home.'" It's unclear what caused either fire.
10 Injured in Four-Alarm Queens Warehouse Fire
Around 11 a.m. yesterday, a fire broke out at 37-01 31st Street in Astoria and turned into a four-alarm blaze. According to NY1, "Fire officials say combustible materials in the building, such as paints and wood, created an explosion and the second floor collapsed."
