Nicole Atkins, Musician
Nicole Atkins is more than "just" a girl with a guitar. Her live shows are amongst the best we've seen - energetic, personable and with a sound so big there's little else to do but feel a part of the music. Tomorrow afternoon she'll take the stage at our show in Austin, and we suggest coming by if you're at SXSW. For New Yorkers staying in town, she'll be playing Bowery Ballroom on March 19th.
Enhance the Pissing Experience and Save Water Too!
The advent of home urinals means more water conservation and less piss on the floor. It makes perfect sense; why shouldn't every bathroom have one? But according to a Times article, the fixture has leaped straight from commercial men's rooms into luxury master suites, bypassing mass-market budgets for the moment. High-end manufacturers and one twisted porcelain artist from San Francisco have begun releasing a steady flow of new residential urinal designs over the past few years.
Reggie!
We finally have a Bush election that cannot be questioned. USC’s star running back, Reggie Bush, won the Heisman Trophy Saturday night in a landslide over his teammate Matt Leinert and Texas quarterback Vince Young. Leinert won the trophy last season which means two Heisman winners will be playing for the same team for the first time ever when USC faces Texas in the Rose Bowl on January 4th.
Coolfer's Super Special Music Picks
CMJ is here. For New Yorkers, you've probably already seen many of these bands. Everybody plays here. But the number of shows and the number of people crammed into the clubs for these shows is greater than normal. Be careful out there.
Coolfer's Music Picks
For New Yorkers, this week's concert calendar should be focused on Saturday's Siren Music Festival down at Coney Island. (Hopefully the weather will hang in there. As of today the forecast is for isolated thunderstorms, which I suppose is better than intense heat and humidity.) This year's line-up is a dream come true for the fan of indie rock. Death Cab For Cutie, Blonde Redhead, TV on the Radio, the Fiery Furnaces, Har Mar Superstar, ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead, Electric Six, Mission of Burma and lots more. Get there early--the Fiery Furnaces hit the stage at 2pm.
